Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Assessment and counseling of at risk patients as part of the medical management program to identify and modify medical risk factors for optimal outcomes and prepare patients for surgery. Provides health care services to patients under the direction, supervision and responsibility of the orthopaedic physician. Basic assessment and management of Orthopedic conditions, after proper training, will be required.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
  • Counsels pre-op patients to identify and modify risk factors (weight reduction, smoking cessation, sleep apnea assessment, vitamin D and bone metabolism issues, etc.)
  • Performs patient evaluation and work up, including history and physical assessment, patient/family/caregiver education, and the institution of routine orders, under the supervision of the physician
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures; interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan
  • Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments; Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention
  • Coordinates DME in conjunction with medical management program
  • Evaluates/Interprets patient status through laboratory parameters, radiological, DEXA, other diagnostic studies, progress notes and routine orders
  • Provides ongoing assessment of performance and outcomes
  • Collaborates with physician for care; maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information
  • Institutes and executes post-operative orders of the supervising physician
  • Provides follow-up care and services commensurate with experience
  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation
  • Performs and assists with routine injections
  • Performs other related duties as needed or assigned by clinic manager

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program recognized by the state committee of Physician Assistants and the Board of Medical Examiners. Successful completion of the examination of the National Board for Certification of Physician Assistants.

Nurse Practitioner: Master’s Degree Required in Nursing. Must hold and maintain a current RN license in Tennessee. Must hold and maintain current National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner.

Experience: Previous experience in minor medical care and emergency care is required.

Computer Skills: Must be computer literate. Intermediate computer skills are required.

Other Requirements: Interest in Research would be beneficial. Must be willing to market the program.

Certifications & Licenses: Physician Assistant: Must hold and maintain a valid license issued by the National Board for Certification of Physician Assistants

Nurse Practitioner: Must hold and maintain a current RN license in Tennessee. Must hold and maintain current National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
