POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Staff Accountant manages complex financial records, leads the month-end, quarter-end, and yearend closing process, is responsible for maintaining accurate financial procedures in coordination with the Accounting Manager.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintain general ledger, prepare and post journal entries, proof monthly trial balance and financial statements.
  • Review and Reconcile month end entries for daily cash receipts, benefit allocation journal entries, and council bank accounts to ensure accuracy of entries and maintaining internal controls.
  • Prepare and ensure accuracy of council payroll and related reports
  • Coordinate tracking and reporting of product sale bad debt
  • Manage and coordinate the tracking of product sale ACH bounce backs including taking the appropriate follow up actions for collection of the bounce backs and preparing the related journal entries.
  • Provides guidance to Accounting staff in collection of checks and closing of troop bank accounts
  • Provide tracking and reporting for the Brown Trust.
  • Act as backup to Accounting Manager for final review of Accounts Payable entries prior to posting and issuance of checks.
  • Maintain and Reconcile pre-paid expense accounts to general ledger accounts balances
  • Maintain pledges receivable and reconcile between general ledger account and Network for Good reports
  • Responsible for bank reconciliations for general operating account
  • Responsible for inventory tracking and posting on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in the annual audit preparation.
  • Responsible for tracking and reconciling grant expenses.
  • Assist Accounting Manager in reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Support the CFO with follow up items, and other duties as assigned
  • Ensure diversity and pluralism is embraced and incorporated into the work of the council.
  • Ensure the success of the council by working in partnership with functional units, contributing to a team environment and subscribing to the overall objectives set forth in the council’s strategic plan.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree preferred or combination of 3-5 years equivalent education plus progressive accounting or auditing experience.

Possess the capacity to successfully complete a criminal and background search as a required condition of employment.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices with hands on experience handling general ledgers, month-end or year-end close processes, and financial statement preparation

Strong verbal and written communication, leadership capabilities to guide junior team members, resolve conflicts, maturity of judgment and analytical problem-solving skills.

Demonstrate confidentiality with sensitive information both internal and external.

Possess ability to work independently and be self-motivated within a team environment.

Exhibit strong planning and organizational skills.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookups), Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer technology.

Possess the ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings/weekends; occasional overnights may be required for training or conference attendance. Ability to travel as job requires, the majority of which is in central Illinois.

Exhibit the ability to provide positive customer service to staff, girls and volunteers.

Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the Girl Scout movement and ability to communicate the mission to others.

Reliable transportation available daily, and possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and driving record that meets the council insurance company’s requirement for coverage.

Exhibit the desire to improve and develop professionally.

Encouraged to be a currently registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA or willing to consider becoming one.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and moderate lifting.

Must be able to sit at a work station and/or a computer screen for up to 2 hours at a time.

Occasional exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
