This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager Client Funds Accounting - Benefits based in the United States.

This role leads critical client funds accounting activities across a large payroll and HR technology environment.
You’ll oversee financial controls, reconciliation processes, cash monitoring, and risk mitigation across the client portfolio.
The position combines people leadership with hands-on financial analysis and operational problem-solving.
You’ll partner closely with Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Banking, Finance, Product, and other teams to support business initiatives and improve processes.
Your work will help identify potential losses, resolve complex accounting issues, strengthen internal controls, and protect client funds.

This is a fully remote U.S. position offering meaningful ownership, cross-functional exposure, and opportunities to improve scalable financial operations.

Accountabilities
  • Oversee client funds accounting activities across the full client portfolio, assessing financial exposure, projecting risk, and supporting strategic business initiatives.
  • Advise Client Funds Accounting team members on bank files, reconciliation issues, and corrective actions required to resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Directly manage, coach, and counsel Client Funds Analysts, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
  • Analyze client balances and cash positions at a portfolio level to identify potential risks, losses, shortfalls, or excesses and develop appropriate action plans.
  • Review outstanding aging issues and escalations to ensure risks are addressed promptly and determine when additional departmental escalation is required.
  • Review and approve daily and weekly reconciliations for payroll and tax accounts.
  • Prepare month-end reconciliations, investigate financial differences, and provide supporting information to Corporate Accounting.
  • Monitor cash across the client base to ensure activity is properly recorded and recommend mechanisms to address cash imbalances.
  • Collaborate with Product and other internal stakeholders on the testing and rollout of new business initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between Accounting, Tax Operations, Treasury, Banking, and Finance teams to coordinate priorities and resolve complex operational issues.
  • Work with Banking, Tax, Treasury, and Finance leadership to coordinate enhancements related to MasterTax or Web Pay activities.
  • Review and approve client credits in accordance with established company policies.
  • Support audit teams by ensuring timely delivery of documentation required for SOX, SOC, and other compliance activities.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and process documentation that strengthen internal controls, improve efficiency, and support scalable operations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline client funds accounting processes, systems, and procedures.
  • Review and approve process documentation while ensuring consistent adherence to established standards.
  • Anticipate emerging issues, make sound decisions, and proactively implement measures that reduce financial and operational liability.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll services, banking operations, client funds accounting, or a closely related environment is strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of supervisory or people-management experience, with demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and lead financial operations teams.
  • Strong understanding of reconciliation, cash management, financial controls, risk assessment, and accounting processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial situations, identify potential risks, and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and sound judgment, with the ability to anticipate issues and act proactively.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft applications, particularly Excel and Access.
  • Experience with MasterTax software is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Tax, Banking, Product, and other teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities and sensitive financial matters.
  • Strong individual and team work ethic, with a collaborative approach to achieving departmental objectives.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling financial information and client funds.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong accountability and follow-through.
  • Comfortable working remotely five days per week during designated business hours.
Benefits
  • Competitive base salary of $79,100–$113,000 per year, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
