Job Description
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for the oversight and coordination of nursing services within the substance abuse treatment facility. This position provides clinical leadership and supervision to nursing staff, ensures the delivery of safe and effective client care, promotes regulatory compliance, and supports the daily operations of detoxification and residential treatment programs. The ADON collaborates with medical, clinical, and administrative leadership to maintain high standards of care and foster a therapeutic, recovery-focused environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the nursing department
- Supervise, support, and mentor nursing staff, including Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses
- Assist with staff scheduling and staffing coverage
- Ensure nursing services are provided in accordance with facility policies, nursing standards and regulatory requirements
- Monitor and support client care in detoxification and residential treatment programs
- Ensure accurate and timely nursing documentation and medication administration records
- Oversee medication management processes, medication room compliance, and controlled substance accountability
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations of nursing staff
- Provide clinical guidance ad support during medical and behavioral emergencies
- Review incidents, medication variances, and client care concerns and implement corrective actions as needed
- Collaborate with medical providers, therapists, case managers, behavioral health technicians, and facility leadership regarding client care
- Support quality improvement, infection control, and risk management initiatives
- Assist with audits, surveys, inspections, and accreditation activities
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program required
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licensure and Certifications
· Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of South Carolina required
- Current CPR and First Aid certification required or obtained within the designated timeframe after hire
Experience
· Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience required
· Previous supervisory experience preferred
· Experience in substance abuse treatment, detoxification, behavioral health, residential treatment or a related healthcare setting preferred
· Knowledge of withdrawal management, medication administration, nursing operations, and regulatory compliance
· Experience with electronic health records and healthcare documentation systems
