Title: Echocardiography Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer / Echo Tech)

Location: San Antonio, TX

Position Type: Part time (16-29 hours/week) to Full time (30-40+ hours/week), hourly.

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Ultrasound Certification.

Summary:

Vighter is recruiting qualified Echocardiography Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer) to provide comprehensive cardiac ultrasound services for the Veteran’s Administration (VA) in San Antonio, TX. The Echocardiography Technologist performs high-quality transthoracic echocardiograms and other cardiac ultrasound procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The technologist ensures patient safety, image quality, and compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Joint Commission, and facility standards. The standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding all recognized national standards.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Perform high-quality transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) according to physician orders and established protocols.
  • Obtain accurate cardiac measurements, Doppler studies, and diagnostic images.
  • Recognize and document abnormal cardiac findings for physician interpretation.
  • Operate and maintain echocardiography equipment and ensure proper functionality.
  • Perform quality assurance and equipment checks in accordance with facility policies.
  • Document procedures accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Follow infection control, HIPAA, radiation safety (when applicable), and patient safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely patient care.
  • Responsible for making routine calibration on equipment. Must recognize and report major equipment malfunctions within a timely manner. Ensure that all equipment is in proper working order prior to use. Removes and tags defective equipment and notifies Radiology Supervisor.
  • Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients. Includes the maintenance of patient registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system.

  • Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.

Education:

  • Graduate from an approved program or School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in echocardiography specialty is required.
  • Certification: Registration by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) is highly desirable.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are also desired. All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times.
  • License: Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S and/or certification as required.

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

  • The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. However, this key position supports 24/7/365 operations which may require work to be conducted in the day, at night, on weekends, and during holidays.

Travel:

  • As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commuting is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
  • Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
  • Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
  • Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
