Job Description
The Public Area Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and overall presentation of all public spaces throughout the hotel. This role ensures that guests experience an immaculate, luxurious, and welcoming environment by delivering exceptional attention to detail and adhering to the highest standards of cleanliness and hospitality.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Clean and maintain all hotel public areas, including:
- Lobby and reception areas
- Public restrooms
- Hallways and corridors
- Elevators and elevator lobbies
- Meeting and event spaces
- Restaurants, lounges, and bars
- Fitness center and spa areas
- Business center
- Outdoor entrances, patios, terraces, and guest gathering spaces
- Dust, vacuum, sweep, mop, and sanitize all assigned areas using approved cleaning methods.
- Clean glass doors, mirrors, windows, brass, stainless steel, and decorative fixtures to maintain a polished appearance.
- Empty trash and recycling containers while replacing liners as needed.
- Restock restroom supplies including soap, paper products, hand towels, and guest amenities.
- Maintain cleanliness of furniture, artwork, décor, and other high-touch surfaces.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged furnishings, or cleanliness issues promptly.
- Respond courteously and promptly to guest requests while maintaining a professional and welcoming demeanor.
- Assist housekeeping with special projects, deep cleaning assignments, VIP arrivals, and event setup or breakdown as needed.
- Ensure floors remain dry, safe, and free of hazards by placing appropriate caution signage during cleaning.
- Follow all hotel safety procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and OSHA standards.
- Maintain proper inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.
- Support sustainability initiatives through proper waste disposal, recycling, and efficient use of cleaning products.
- Consistently uphold luxury hospitality standards and represent the hotel professionally at all times.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred; luxury hotel experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Frequently stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Bend, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead frequently.
- Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Operate housekeeping carts, vacuums, floor equipment, and cleaning tools safely.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
