Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Member of Technical Staff based in Brazil.
Join an innovative engineering team developing AI-powered software to transform healthcare practice management and clinical operations. In this hands-on role, you will own technical features end to end, from identifying real-world problems to designing, building, deploying, and monitoring production-ready solutions. You will collaborate directly with clinicians and operational teams to develop intelligent agents and automated workflows that streamline administrative processes and improve healthcare delivery. Working across the full technology stack, you will contribute to web and mobile applications, backend services, infrastructure, and AI-driven capabilities. The team embraces AI-assisted development, modern engineering practices, and a high degree of individual ownership. This remote contract opportunity is ideal for a resourceful engineer who thrives on solving ambiguous problems and building reliable, impactful products.
Develop AI-powered solutions: Design and implement intelligent agents and automated workflows for healthcare operations, including insurance benefits verification, prior authorizations, patient intake, claims processing, and clinical documentation.
Build end-to-end product features: Develop and maintain web and mobile applications serving clinicians, patients, families, and internal operations teams.
Own the product development lifecycle: Work directly with clinicians and operational stakeholders to understand complex challenges, define requirements, write technical specifications, and deliver solutions from initial concept through production.
Design scalable technical systems: Build and maintain backend services, data models, APIs, and integrations while managing infrastructure as code and ensuring reliable system architecture.
Manage production systems: Take responsibility for deployments, monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and the ongoing performance and reliability of the services you develop.
Evaluate AI capabilities: Create and maintain evaluations for AI-powered features, monitor workflow performance, measure model quality, and continuously improve the reliability and effectiveness of automated processes.
Protect sensitive healthcare information: Follow strict security and privacy practices when handling protected health information (PHI), including least-privilege access, preventing sensitive data from appearing in logs, and maintaining auditable changes.
Enhance AI-assisted engineering: Build and maintain reusable skills, plugins, Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, and automated code-review tools that improve engineering productivity and code quality.
Collaborate across the engineering team: Contribute across the platform in a flat, cross-functional environment, documenting decisions and sharing technical context through specifications, pull requests, and tickets.
Professional experience: At least 3 years of experience building, deploying, and maintaining production software.
End-to-end ownership: Demonstrated ability to take ownership of products or features from ambiguous initial requirements through implementation and deployment, delivering systems that users rely on.
Full-stack engineering expertise: Strong practical skills in Python and TypeScript, with experience across frontend development, backend services, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
Codebase adaptability: Comfortable navigating and contributing to large, established codebases while maintaining high standards for reliability, maintainability, and code quality.
Hands-on AI and LLM experience: Experience developing applications with large language models, including tool use, agent orchestration, structured outputs, retrieval, and evaluation. Familiarity with LangGraph, an agent SDK, or comparable frameworks is valuable.
AI coding agent proficiency: Daily practical experience with tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor. You should know how to configure agents for a codebase using project instructions, skills, MCP servers, hooks, and subagents; coordinate multiple tasks in parallel; and carefully review AI-generated code.
Product and UI judgment: Strong product intuition and the ability to make sound user interface decisions independently, using an existing component library without relying on a dedicated designer.
Technical problem-solving: Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems, identify root causes, make sound engineering decisions, and independently resolve blockers.
Ownership and initiative: A proactive, resourceful mindset with the confidence to seek context, ask targeted questions, and move projects forward in a fast-paced environment.
Written communication: Clear and structured written communication skills, with the ability to document decisions, specifications, implementation details, and technical discussions for a distributed team working across time zones.
Nice to have:
Experience in healthcare or another regulated industry, including familiarity with HIPAA, insurance payer workflows, claims processing, electronic health records (EHRs), or HL7/FHIR integrations.
Experience with Temporal or another durable workflow orchestration engine.
Familiarity with React Native for mobile application development.
Experience building and operating LLM evaluations, model-output validation, or AI safety checks in production.
Experience developing custom agent frameworks, MCP servers, or plugins for AI coding assistants.
Contributions to open-source projects, side projects, or internal tools used by other developers or teams.
Candidates who meet most of the requirements and are excited about the opportunity are encouraged to apply, even if they do not satisfy every qualification.
Benefits:Remote work: Work remotely as part of a distributed engineering team collaborating across multiple time zones.
Contract opportunity: A contract-based position offering the opportunity to contribute directly to an AI-driven healthcare technology platform.
Technical ownership: Significant autonomy to design, build, deploy, and maintain features across the entire technology stack.
Modern technology stack: Work with Python, TypeScript, React, Next.js, React Native, PostgreSQL, AWS, Terraform, and modern workflow orchestration technologies.
AI-first engineering environment: Use advanced AI models and coding assistants, including Claude and OpenAI models, Claude Code, and Codex, as part of everyday development.
Meaningful impact: Build software that helps healthcare practices streamline administrative operations and improve the experience of clinicians, patients, and families.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work directly with clinical and operational stakeholders in a flat engineering team with broad exposure to product development and business needs.
