Job Description

Chief Financial Officer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Chief Financial Officer based in Canada.

The Chief Financial Officer will lead the financial strategy and operations of a rapidly scaling technology business, helping shape its next stage of growth. This executive-level role combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational oversight across financial planning, accounting, reporting, and capital strategy. Working closely with the CEO, executive team, and Board, the CFO will strengthen financial discipline, improve decision-making, and build scalable systems and processes. The role requires a proven track record of scaling SaaS or technology companies, navigating complex financial milestones, and preparing organizations for future financing or strategic events. The successful candidate will develop a high-performing finance organization while ensuring reliable forecasting, robust controls, and credible financial reporting. This is a remote opportunity for a senior leader based in Canada or the United States, with required travel to Ottawa and Toronto.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and develop the FP&A and Accounting functions, establishing clear priorities, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring accurate, timely financial deliverables.

  • Assess existing financial operations, identify process gaps, and work directly with teams to resolve issues and improve operational effectiveness.

  • Simplify and document core finance processes, enhance data quality, and introduce automation to reduce manual effort, errors, and reliance on workarounds.

  • Oversee financial planning and analysis, including budgets, forecasts, financial models, and performance analysis, translating insights into actionable business decisions.

  • Direct accounting operations, financial close processes, audits, reporting, and internal controls while ensuring compliance with applicable GAAP and IFRS requirements.

  • Partner with the CEO and Board on financial strategy, capital requirements, financing opportunities, and investor communications.

  • Bring financial rigor to company-wide decisions involving pricing, investment, headcount, and market expansion.

  • Evaluate acquisitions and strategic partnerships, leading financial modelling, valuation, due diligence, and post-transaction integration planning.

  • Build and coach a finance organization capable of supporting significant revenue growth, with systems, controls, and talent aligned to long-term business needs.

  • Ensure forecasting, financial reporting, and Board materials are accurate, credible, and trusted by executive stakeholders.

  • Prepare the organization for future fundraising, financing, or other strategic milestones well in advance.

Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including previous CFO experience within a scaling business.

  • Demonstrated success scaling SaaS or technology companies from approximately $50 million to more than $200 million in revenue, with experience navigating different exit paths.

  • Deep expertise in financial planning and analysis, including strategic planning, forecasting, financial modelling, and performance management.

  • Direct experience with late-stage fundraising, such as Series C, D, or E, or experience operating in public markets.

  • Strong understanding of SaaS metrics, recurring revenue models, and the financial drivers of technology businesses.

  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and IFRS, compliance frameworks, internal controls, and audit oversight.

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing finance teams and senior functional leaders.

  • Strong strategic judgment and analytical skills, with the ability to balance detailed operational problem-solving with a company-wide perspective.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with CEOs, executive teams, and Boards, influencing decisions through clear financial insights and sound judgment.

  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, valuation, and post-close integration, is an asset.

  • Experience in a Canadian business with US and international operations, including multi-currency environments and cross-border tax considerations, is an asset.

  • Must be a Canadian or American citizen or otherwise eligible to work in Canada or the United States.

  • Must be willing to undergo a criminal records check upon hire and comply with applicable organizational security policies and standards.

  • Willingness to travel to the Ottawa headquarters and Toronto hub as required.

Benefits:
  • Remote work arrangement for eligible candidates based in Canada or the United States, with flexibility in how and where work is performed where the role permits.

  • Meaningful equity participation for full-time, permanent employees.

  • Comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees' overall well-being.

  • Monthly reimbursement for fitness, wellness, or mental health programs.

  • Opportunities for career growth and advancement based on contribution, initiative, and impact.

  • A candid, collaborative culture built around clear expectations, honest feedback, trust, quality, urgency, and teamwork.

  • Opportunities to connect with colleagues through learning sessions and informal social activities.

  • Compensation determined by location, experience, job-related skills, and demonstrated capabilities throughout the interview process, with consideration for fairness and internal equity. A specific salary range is not provided in the listing.
