Job Description
Boll & Branch, the leading designer and retailer of luxury home textiles that are managed from the source, is seeking a detail-oriented, brand-driven Associate Designer to join our small and highly collaborative Product Design team. In this collaborative, hands-on role, you will take specific product assignments across our bedding, bath, and rug categories from concept through factory-ready spec, working alongside the Senior Designer who sets the overall design direction. It's a great fit for someone who loves home design, has a strong eye for detail, and is excited to grow their skills and contribute across a wide range of product categories.
This role reports to the Senior Designer, Textiles & Home Products.
What You'll Do:
- Create and update design specs and factory-ready artwork for products within collections led by the Senior Designer
- Execute designs for wovens, embroideries, prints, and knits that follow established brand direction, using hand drawing/painting and digital tools, including technically accurate repeats and alternate layouts and scales
- Collaborate closely with design leadership, including our Founder & Chief Product Officer and SVP of Product Creation, to bring creative concepts to life.
- Partner with the Sr. Color Manager to develop colorway options using our Pantone and Archroma library
- Revise artwork and specs based on factory feedback, sampling results, and direction from design leadership
- Communicate spec details and revisions clearly to Product Development and factory partners for your assigned products
- Build and maintain physical and digital design presentation materials for internal milestone meetings, and support product renderings and bed looks using Adobe Creative Suite and generative AI tools such as Gemini
- Track your assigned products against the development calendar and flag risks early to the Senior Designer
- Collaborate with partners in Product Development, Color, Materials, Merchandising, and Production during prototype and sample reviews, helping refine designs from initial concept through finished product.
- Research trends in fashion, home, nature, and architecture to inform your product assignments, and continue building your knowledge of our brand aesthetic, fabrications, construction, and techniques
- Participate in domestic travel, as needed, to attend print and textile shows, vintage markets, and other design inspiration and research opportunities.
What You Bring:
- As part of your application, please submit a portfolio demonstrating strong textile, surface design, and creative problem-solving skills. We encourage you to highlight your creative process and the thinking behind your work.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Textile Design, Product Design, Surface Pattern Design, Fashion Design, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in textile design, home furnishings, or fashion/apparel (internships and academic work considered); experience with bedding, bath, or rugs is a plus
- Strong hand drawing and digital artwork skills, with proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; comfort using AI tools to generate renderings and mock-ups
- Strong attention to detail, especially with product design specifications, quality, and brand aesthetics
- A developing aesthetic sensibility and genuine passion for home design and decor
- Clear communicator, comfortable explaining design details to teammates and cross-functional partners, and open to feedback from senior designers
- Some understanding of product development and production processes; exposure to a PLM system is a plus
- Experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Slides, Meet, etc.) and Microsoft Excel
- Comfortable in a small, nimble team where priorities can shift, and able to manage multiple assigned products at once; willing to help with any product design related projects
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Textile Design, Surface Pattern Design, Fashion Design, or a related field
