Position Title: Mechanical Commissioning Field Specialist I

Position Location: Remote – Bowling Green, OH. Must be located near a major airport.

Travel Requirements: Up to 75% domestic travel; relocation may be considered for long-term project needs. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to rent vehicles.

JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanical Commissioning Field Specialist I is a technical commissioning role responsible for leading commissioning tasks, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring project success. This position builds upon Mechanical Commissioning Field Technician 3 responsibilities, requiring greater independence, leadership, and decision-making in field commissioning.

The Mechanical Commissioning Field Specialist I will direct vendors and contractors, manage technical execution, and assist project leadership in ensuring commissioning deliverables are met. This role involves limited supervision, with the expectation that the Mechanical Commissioning Field Specialist 1 can manage field-level commissioning execution with minimal oversight.

The Mechanical Commissioning Field Specialist I will receive limited directions on day-to-day work and general instruction on new projects or assignments. Will execute commissioning and assist project leadership on projects of complex scope. Will work independently or under limited supervision.

This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PERFORM ON-SITE COMMISSIONING ACTIVITIES AND ASSIST IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT (50%)

On-site inspection, validation, functional testing, verification and troubleshooting of mechanical and controls equipment Participate in factory witness testing and observe startup activities Use technical equipment to perform testingDirect vendors / contractors in the execution of the testing Timely and effective management and delivery of projectsIdentify potential project risks and aid in development of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlinesOnboarding of project team for mobilization and provide ongoing updates

DEVELOP TESTING PLANS AND PROCEDURES FOR COMPLEX PROJECTS (20%)

Development of commissioning plans Prepare pre-functional checklists Prepare functional performance test scripts

REVIEW CONSTRUCTION RELATED DESIGN DOCUMENTS, DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS (15%)

Review shop drawings and submittalsReview sequence of operationsAssist in commissioning focused design reviews

REPORTING (15%)

Assist with all project communication and reportingPrepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholdersAssist in preparation and contribute to final commissioning report for submission to client Manage personal hours using company tools

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Must be able to obtain NFPA 70E / OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certifications as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction or related discipline

OR

Two years’ experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of mechanical and controls infrastructure

PLUS

Minimum five years’ additional experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of mechanical and controls infrastructure

This role provides a structured learning path to progress into one of two key advancement tracks, based on individual strengths and career interests:

✔ Specialist II (Level 5, Step 1-4) – Technical Path / Field Focused – this role is primarily a technical expert, focusing on hands-on testing, issue resolution, and mentoring.

✔ Field Coordinator I (Level 5, Step 1-4) – Managerial Focused – this role shifts towards project coordination, stakeholder management, and team leadership, taking on a greater responsibility for planning, scheduling, and resource allocation, overseeing multiple projects and leading commissioning efforts at a higher level.

A Specialist II can transition into Coordinator I when management determines they have demonstrated strong leadership, project coordination, and client-facing skills.
