Substitute School Nurse in Schaumburg, Illinois at BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH

PRIMARY ROLE:

To provide primary health and emergency care to students, promote wellness and serve as a resource for

health concerns in the school setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
• Provides care for student and staff illness and accidents.
• Administers care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans.
• Serves as liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.
• Documents all encounters in the Electronic Health Record.
• Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.

REPORTS TO: School Nurse, Head of School

• Hold current, unrestricted, Illinois State license as a Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse
• Current certification in CPR
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: allergies, asthma
• management, diabetes, insulin pen and pumps, seizure management
• Implement the nursing process in a school-based setting and provide support for unlicensed personnel
• Ability to perform skilled nursing care such insulin administration, insulin pump skills and nebulizer
• treatments, inhalers, emergency medications
• Providing first aid for various issues throughout the day and notify EMS if needed
• Exceptional clinical documentation via a computer-based platform for all encounters
• Manage complex situations and triage accordingly for grades K3-12th grade including but not limited to:
• head injury, psychiatric needs, potential anaphylaxis, trauma
• Professing Christian with active participation in the local church body

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field
• Experience in pediatric and/or community or public health nursing
• Prior experience in school nursing, or acute care setting
