Adjunct - Education in at Bluefield University

SUMMARY

Bluefield University invites applications for an online Adjunct Faculty member to teach undergraduate and graduate online courses in the Education Department. The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching college students, committed to student success, and able to create an engaging online classroom environment that supports the University's Christ-centered mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS

The essential duties, responsibilities, and functions of the Adjunct Faculty include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Teach one or more online courses in Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees.
• Prepare engaging assignments that promote effective academic writing, revision, research, and critical thinking.
• Create a welcoming online classroom environment that encourages participation, collaboration, and student success.
• Assess student learning through assignments.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work.
• Maintain accurate grade records and submit grades by established deadlines.
• Maintain appropriate availability for students consistent with adjunct faculty expectations.
• Utilize the University's learning management system for course communication, instructional materials, and grading.
• Adhere to University academic policies, curriculum requirements, and assessment expectations.
• Participate in adjunct orientation and other professional development activities as requested. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Master's degree in Education or Special Education with a valid full teaching license in education or special education. Completed doctorate preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to teach college-level courses.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to student success and academic excellence.
• Experience teaching P-12 special education.
• Familiarity with Canvas or another learning management system.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

The qualification standards of the Adjunct Faculty include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. A Christian commitment and lifestyle that acknowledges a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a personal commitment to the Christian purpose and mission of Bluefield University.

1. Professional appearance and presentation in the working environment (including business casual attire).

1. If a 3-credit course has between 2 and 3 students, the instructor will be paid:

a. $600 per course

b. 1 enrolled student – Independent Study rate of $100 per credit hour

2. If a 3-credit course has between 4 and 6 students, the instructor will be paid:

a. $1,200 per course

3. If a 3-credit course has between 7 and 22 students, the instructor will be paid:

a. $1,900

4. If a 3-credit course has 23 to 30 students, then the instructor will be paid:

a. $2,200

5. If a 3-credit course exceeds 30 students, the instructor will be compensated at $2,200

plus $80 per additional student in a course above 30
