HIM Technician III in Coupeville, Washington at Whidbey General Hospital

JOB SUMMARY

The HIM Technician III supports the mission of providing quality healthcare to the patients of WhidbeyHealth and Clinics by performing a variety of duties. The position is assigned to the specific function involved in storing, maintaining and protecting the integrity and security of patient medical records for both Hospital and Clinic records. The HIM Technician III is responsible for retrieving, filing, scanning, logging and releasing medical records as well as other duties to support Health Information Management (HIM).

The HIM Technician is expected to complete all work within the guidelines of HIPAA, hospital policy and procedures, and always maintain confidentiality of protected information.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

• Release of Information:
  • As needed answers outside and internal calls in a professional and prompt manner.
  • Processes requests for Release Of Information (ROI) from the workload in Meditech as needed. All Continuity of Care requests should be processed within 14 working days as required by regulations.
  • Processes requests for ROI out of Meditech, paper charts, microfiche and microfilm for Continuity of Care, Audits, PFS, patient care and legal release of information.
  • Must understand all Release of Information policies for effective and HIPAA compliant Release of Information procedures and process requests timely. All releases must follow Washington State Heath Information Management Association (WSHIMA) regulations and Federal Guidelines.
  • Keeps current with ongoing or new legislative issues related to ROI.
  • All releases must be documented in Release of Information desktop located in Meditech.
  • Works closely with all patient care requests to ensure the correct Release of Information Form is completed and accurately filled in to ensure compliant release of information protocols are met.
  • Processes all Audit requests per Release of Information requirements as outlined by the Payor Request Form.
  • Be able to explain Release of Information procedures in those applicable situations where the patient, payor, attorney etc., needs additional information on release protocols/procedures.

An HIM Technician I-II may apply to an HIM Technician III in their assigned department with the proven ability to perform all essential functions and competencies in their current position with no recent performance improvement documentation on file.
