Job Description
The Dispatch stands out as a platform for thoughtful coverage, respectful dialogue, and a wildly engaged community of paying members. We bring a perspective—we’re right-of-center—but we’re fiercely independent, standing apart from media outlets increasingly engaged in partisan boosterism. Started in 2019 by Steve Hayes and Jonah Goldberg, The Dispatch has filled a valuable gap in the media ecosystem as covered in the New York Times, Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, and other publications.
The RoleThe Dispatch is seeking a Senior Producer to support day-to-day execution across its podcast and multimedia portfolio. This person will work across the core podcast suite—including Advisory Opinions, The Dispatch Podcast, and The Remnant—as well as video-supported projects, live programming, field production, and new format development, with a focus on strengthening quality control, improving workflows, supporting producers, and ensuring every show publishes on time and at a high standard.
Manage episode approvals and maintain high production standards across the portfolio while respecting each show’s distinct voice and host-driven identity
Review rough cuts and final episodes and provide constructive editorial and production feedback before publication
Support day-to-day production across shows, including scheduling, booking logistics, recording coordination, post-production handoffs, and publication timelines
Produce recordings, support tapings, edit episodes, or help prepare final deliverables
Source, vet, book, and manage freelance editors, producers, engineers, shooters, and other production support; write clear assignment briefs
Maintain a reliable roster of freelance and vendor support for overflow work, special projects, field shoots, and live events; track assignments to ensure work is delivered on time, within scope, and at the expected quality level
Travel as needed for live events, field shoots, interviews, and special recordings; serve as on-site producer managing schedules, run-of-show details, venue communication, host and guest needs, and recording workflows
Operate basic audio and video equipment including cameras, microphones, lights, and recording gear; capture footage, interview and b-roll, needed
Create content and write and edit metadata that will perform well on social media
Support development of new shows, special series, live events, and video-supported formats; translate creative direction into practical production plans, staffing needs, timelines, and budgets
Help test and refine new formats, including pilots, reported segments, limited series, and video-supported projects, with downstream production needs in mind
Strong experience producing podcasts, video, radio, digital journalism, or comparable editorial audio/video programming
Excellent editorial judgment and a strong ear for structure, pacing, clarity, and audience experience
Experience reviewing edits and giving constructive feedback to producers, editors, or hosts
Highly experienced with audio and video production workflows, with competence in tools such as Riverside, Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere, and Descript
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple shows, deadlines, and stakeholders at once
Experience coordinating freelancers, vendors, live recordings, field shoots, or special productions
Ability to work diplomatically with hosts, editors, producers, freelancers, vendors, and senior leadership
Comfort operating in a small, fast-moving team where senior staff are expected to be both strategic and hands-on
Willingness to travel as needed for live events, field production, interviews, and special projects
