Job Description
ABOUT BRAVE BOOKS
At BRAVE Books, our mission is to secure the hearts and minds of the next generation when they are the most malleable, before the harmful agendas of this world can try leading them astray. We do this by creating faith- and values-based stories, TV shows, games, and resources that equip families to raise the next generation of courageous, truth-filled leaders. We publish bold, meaningful content every month—from picture books and chapter books to graphic novels, TV series and more—all designed to captivate children and support parents in the battle for their kids' hearts and minds.
ABOUT BRAVE CULTURE
At BRAVE Books, we've built a team of reliable, relentless high-performers who are loyal to the mission, driven to win, and selfless in execution. We hire individuals who show up hungry, take ownership, and grind with consistency—the kind of people who carry more than their share without needing the spotlight.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Tell the stories that stick. Write the books that sell.
Brave Books publishes children's books and adult nonfiction books. Many of our books are built
from creator content (YouTube videos, podcasts, newsletters). Some are original concepts. All
of them need someone who understands how to turn ideas into narratives that resonate with
readers.
You'll work with our creative director, our editors, our AI tools, and our authors/creators to
develop and refine manuscripts that work — both creatively and commercially.
What you'll actually do:
- Manuscript development and outlining. You'll take a creator's concept or a market opportunity and develop it into a structured outline. For children's books, you'll understand story structure (Pixar template, problem-solution, journey). For adult nonfiction, you'll identify the narrative throughline that makes information stick.
- Writing and rewriting. You'll draft sections, full chapters, entire manuscripts, and occasionally even ghostwrite, depending on the project. You'll know when to write fast and when to slow down and craft. You'll rewrite based on feedback — from creative directors, editors, and the author/creator.
- Editing and line editing. You'll work on manuscripts at different stages — rough draft editing, substantive editing, line editing. You'll know the difference and when to apply each.
- Collaboration with creators. Many of our authors are YouTubers or content creators, not professional writers. You'll interview them, extract their voice, maintain their authenticity, and shape raw ideas into structured narratives. You're a translator between their world and the book world.
- Working with AI tools. We use Claude and other AI for content generation and ideation. You'll know how to brief AI, review and refine its output, maintain voice consistency, and know when AI should lead vs. when you should.
- Genre flexibility. You'll write children's picture books, early chapter books, and adult nonfiction. Each requires different skills. You'll adapt your voice and approach based on the format and audience.
- Feedback and revision. You'll give feedback on manuscripts (even ones you didn't write), understand why something isn't working, and articulate how to fix it.
What we're looking for:
- Strong voice with flexibility. You have a recognizable writing style, but you can adapt it. You can write a children's book that sounds like a children's book and an adult nonfiction book that sounds authoritative.
- Storyteller first, technician second. You understand structure and grammar, but you prioritize the story. A perfectly grammatical book that doesn't engage readers is a failure.
- Curiosity about your subjects. You'll write about things you don't know much about (fitness, parenting, business, history). You'll ask questions, do research, and understand the subject deeply enough to explain it clearly.
- Comfort with collaboration and feedback. Manuscripts get rewritten. You'll get feedback from creators, editors, and leadership. You won't take it personally. You'll see feedback as a tool to make the work better.
- Efficiency without rushing. You can write quickly when you need to, but you know that speed and quality aren't opposites. You'll prioritize what matters (voice, story, clarity) and move fast on things that don't.
- Bonus: Publishing background. Children's book writing experience. Experience writing from/with subject matter experts. Content writing or copywriting background.
Why you'd want this job:
You get to write books that people actually read. You'll see your work in print, on shelves, in readers' hands. You'll work with creators, editors, designers, and leadership. You'll develop new skills across multiple genres. You'll see how your words drive revenue. If you believe good writing matters and want to prove it in a commercial context, this is it.
The pay range for this role is:
