Job Description:

Job Title: Shop Supervisor

Job Function: Yard/Salvage

Reports To: Store Manager

Classification: Exempt

Summary

The Shop Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our salvage shop. This includes leading the team, ensuring efficient workflow, maintaining a safe working environment, and coordinating the processing of salvaged materials. The individual in this role will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of salvage yard operations, and a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads and supervises a team of shop/yard workers, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Remains knowledgeable of fast-moving parts and customer needs.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes teardown of skid steers.
  • Assists teardown technicians with checking parts for quality.
  • Coordinates the processing, sorting, and organization of salvaged materials.
  • Implements and enforces operational procedures to maximize efficiency.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Manages and maintains all equipment used in salvage yard operations.
  • Schedules regular maintenance and repairs to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Implements quality control measures to ensure the proper handling and sorting of materials.
  • Monitors inventory levels and assists in procurement as needed.
  • Coordinates purchases of shop supplies and/or tools with Store Manager
  • Coordinates with Sales Lead for daily operations of salvage store.
  • Enforces safety protocols and procedures to minimize workplace hazards.
  • Conducts regular safety meetings and training for the team.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
    • Complies with the requirements of the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System (when required).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend and kneel on a regular basis.
  • Regular manual dexterity/coordination: hand/eye movements, motor control.
  • Regular visual effort: concentrated reading of documentation or close viewing of computer displays.
  • Able to push, pull and lift up to 50lbs. on a regular basis.

Potential Hazards

  • Employee may be exposed to hazardous substances including a variety of petroleum-based products, paint and paint fumes, cleaning solvents, etc. on a regular basis.
  • Employee may be exposed to sharp (cutting) tools on a regular basis.

  • Safety and Security – Follow safety policies/plans created by the company; utilize tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner

Required Education/Experience/Skills

  • Basic mechanical knowledge specifically with agricultural equipment.
  • Basic welding and cutting torch techniques.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

  • Able to operate forklifts, yard tractors and company vehicles.
  • Ability to direct and lead a team.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend verbal and written instructions.

  • This position does not require any special certifications, licenses, or registrations.
