POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the leadership of the Executive Vice President/Chief Operations Officer (COO) and Risk Manager, the Risk Management Coordinator is responsible for supporting the organization’s Risk Management, Emergency Preparedness, Environment of Care, Patient Safety, and Business Continuity functions. The Coordinator assists in the implementation and maintenance of programs designed to identify, assess, reduce, and monitor organizational risks while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and regulatory standards.
The Risk Management Coordinator coordinates departmental activities, committee functions, emergency preparedness initiatives, training programs, policy management, and interdepartmental communications. This position serves as a liaison among departments and external agencies to support organizational safety, preparedness, and operational continuity.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Support implementation of the organization’s Risk Management Program to identify and mitigate safety, security, operational, and patient care risks.
Assist with maintenance of the Emergency Management (EM) Plan, Business Continuity Planning (BCP), mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery procedures.
Coordinate Environment of Care Committee activities, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, recording and maintaining meeting minutes, and following up on corrective actions in support of the Risk Manager.
As directed by the Risk Manager, coordinates risks and patient safety activities in the organization and assists with routine risk assessments and development of risk reduction strategies.
Participate in Environment of Care rounds, inspections, and audits, documenting findings and assisting departments with corrective action implementation.
Coordinate hazard vulnerability assessments (HVA) and support annual analysis review.
Maintain competency and current knowledge of applicable healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices in risk management and emergency preparedness.
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of safety training programs, compliance with OSHA regulations and other federal, state and local requirements and with preparation for regulatory surveys and accreditation activities.
Assist in the development and completion of after-action reports and improvement plans for drills and exercises.
Provide support in the delivery of emergency management training and education to VIP staff regarding emergency preparedness, mitigation, and business continuity and disaster response procedures.
Maintain productive working and cooperative relationships interdepartmentally and with community emergency management partners at local, county, and state levels.
Oversee and follow-up on the organization’s after-hours on-call management system to ensure timely communication, documentation, escalation, and resolution of incidents and operational concerns.
Support VIP’s emergency communication management system through coordination of preparedness activities, response efforts, communication processes, and ongoing system maintenance.
Assure safeguarding and confidentiality of all documents that are part of risk management proceedings, reports, and records as defined in state peer review and quality statutes.
Facilitate prompt identification and response to patient safety and risk issues.
Participate in travel to off-site walkthroughs, conferences, meetings, drills, and training activities.
Prepare presentations, reports, dashboards, and meeting materials for committees, leadership, and regulatory review.
Provide administrative and operational support during emergency activations, incident command operations, and organizational response activities as appropriate.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE RISK MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR:
Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Emergency Management, Risk Management, or a related field preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree will be considered based on relevant experience, including a minimum of (1-2) years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, emergency preparedness, healthcare compliance, safety coordination, or related areas. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of the position will also be considered.
