Job Description

SUMMARY

Full-time onsite position responsible for the daily production activities of the shift, including labor scheduling, production planning, facility and equipment safety, and production quality. Ensures projected performance is reached on all lines including changeover, downtime and quality objectives. Promote company culture, employee engagement and safety through continuous coaching and effective employee relations. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

2:30 PM - 11:15 PM

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position requires the customary and regular exercise of discretion and independent judgment in the performance of the following essential duties:

  • Lead shift’s production efforts, safety practices, and operational processes.
  • Lead shift safety initiatives and establish clear expectations for safe work practices.
  • Conduct routine floor observations, safety audits, and workplace inspections to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained and consistently follow safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, machine guarding standards, PPE requirements, and safe operating practices.
  • Participate in workplace investigations related to incidents, injuries, and near misses.
  • Confer with management daily to review production schedules, labor distribution plans, quality issues, shipping goals, and staffing needs to maintain and improve production, quality control, and safety standards.
  • Organize and monitor production to achieve delivery commitments and deadlines.
  • Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, safety, and operational reports to determine performance and causes of non-conformity.
  • Drive continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives to improve production efficiency, reduce waste, optimize workflow, and support consistent achievement of safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
  • Create SOPs, productivity reports, and training materials.
  • Effectively communicate expectations, daily plans, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop employees to the expert level within their area of responsibility and promote cross-training to increase scheduling flexibility and workforce capability.
  • Coach employees by providing positive and constructive feedback regarding work performance, adherence to Work Rules, and safety expectations.
  • Motivate employee participation in department objectives and goals to improve overall operational proficiency.
  • Ability to identify and manage conflict while consistently communicating with respect, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining dignity, even in high-pressure situations.
  • Ensure consistent and fair administration and enforcement of established Work Rules.
  • Collaborate with HR staff on recruitment, performance reviews, and employee counseling.
  • Responsible for weekly timecard and time-off approvals.
  • Assist Operations Management with supervision of special projects, daily production activities, plant safety initiatives, and general plant operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and supervision of plant production department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical or Manufacturing) or five+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS

Language: Effective verbal/written communication is a priority. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Ability to effectively communicate with employees, vendors, contractors, and management.

Computer: Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with AutoCAD and any structural analysis/design programs are extremely helpful but not required.

Reasoning: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Other: Proficient knowledge of business operations is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing experience, Green Belt preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and occasionally sit, stoop, climb and bend. The employee is frequently required to use hands, to write, type, handle and grip. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to heavy, sharp objects and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
