Position Summary

Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician is a senior, hands-on position responsible for maintaining the Association’s buildings, amenities, equipment, pools, spas, and related infrastructure. This role provides day-to-day technical leadership, supports maintenance operations, coordinates with contractors, and helps ensure facilities remain safe, clean, functional, and ready for resident use.

Essential Job Functions

Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair community facilities, equipment, and building systems.

  • Perform repairs involving plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, doors, locks, fixtures, appliances, and minor electrical maintenance.
  • Complete preventive maintenance and work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with assigning daily work and providing technical guidance to maintenance staff.
  • Coordinate contractor access and monitor vendor performance.
  • Maintain maintenance records, inspections, inventories, and equipment documentation.
  • Support setup and readiness for meetings, events, and community activities.
  • Respond to emergencies, after-hours calls, and weekend coverage as required.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Attend all meetings as appropriate
  • Comply with all Highlands policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Leadership Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Serve as a technical resource for the maintenance team.
  • Help establish daily priorities and workflow.
  • Coach and mentor less-experienced employees.
  • Communicate project status, material needs, and operational concerns to the Facilities Director.
  • Support continuity of operations during supervisor absences.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and safe equipment operation.
  • Ability to prioritize work and respond to changing needs.
  • Professional communication and customer service skills.
  • Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years of facilities, building, property, HOA, hospitality, or maintenance experience preferred
  • Experience performing repairs in multiple building trades.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Lead worker, crew lead, or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with pools, spas, pumps, motors, water systems, irrigation systems, and general building maintenance preferred.
  • Have or will obtain Pima County Pool Certification.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, climb ladders, operate tools and equipment, and wear required personal protective equipment.
