* Location is open in the continental United States. You should have easy access to a major airport due to the travel requirements of this position.

Purpose

Lead the Web Services team in the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of UUA web applications and digital services. Serve as the primary point of contact for new project implementations, staff consulting on technology solutions, and the management of key web service vendors. Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment that advances the mission and values of the UUA.

Principal Responsibilities

Team Management

  1. Manage the Web Services team, providing day-to-day direction, priority setting, support, and annual performance evaluations.
  1. Mentor and support the professional development of team members.

Project Implementation

  1. Serve asprojectlead for the implementation of new web services and digital tools, managing scope, timelines, and stakeholder communication.
  1. Oversee the full application development lifecycle for team projects, from requirements gathering and design through deployment and documentation.
  1. Ensure new projects adhere to UUA standards for accessibility, security, and usability.

Staff Consulting

  1. Act as a primary consultant for UUA staff seeking technology solutions, evaluating needs and recommending appropriate approaches.
  1. Build and maintain strong working relationships across departments to ensure IT is a trusted partner.
  1. Document solutions and best practices to build organizational knowledge and support self-service.

Vendor Management & Budget

  1. Oversee vendor contracts, renewals, and service-level agreements; evaluate vendor performance andidentifyopportunities for improvement or cost savings.
  1. Coordinate with Director of ITS to manage spending and annual budgets.
  1. Stay current on vendor product updates and ensure the user community is trained and equipped toleveragevendor tools effectively.
  1. Evaluate and recommend new vendor solutions as organizational needs evolve.

Technical Oversight

  1. Maintain a working knowledge of the team’s technical stack and architecturein order toguide technical decision-making and provide informed oversight.
  1. Review and contribute to technical standards, documentation, and best practices.
  1. Ensure applications and systems meet ongoing security, backup, and availability requirements.
  1. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor,theExecutive Vice President, or the President.

- Prioritize vendors whose values align with the UUA’s mission; where full alignment isn’t possible, proactively engage vendors to encourage more equitable and inclusive practices.

- Participate and engage in dismantling systems of white supremacy and other oppressions.

Qualifications

This is an exempt position with a salary midpoint of $91,400. Compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and geographical location, with offers potentially ranging from 10-15% higher or lower than the midpoint. Requirements include:

  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading a technology team, including setting priorities, providing feedback, and supporting staff development.
  • Proven ability to manage technology projects from initiation through delivery, including stakeholder communication and documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal, consulting, and communication skills; able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences to understand needs and identifyappropriate solutions.
  • Broad familiarity with web technologies and modern application development practices sufficient to provide informed technical oversight.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may berequired.
  • Annual travel toGeneralAssembly may berequired.
  • Familiarity with or understanding of the following is helpful but notrequired:
  • Content management system like Drupal.
  • Email marketing/transactional systems like SendGrid.
  • Modern relational database solutions likeAirTable.
  • Web development languages including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL.
  • Cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices (e.g., AWS, Azure, Linux server administration).
  • Understanding of issues around anti-racism, anti-oppression, and multiculturalism 
  • Work or lived experience with BIPOC communities is ofparticular value 
  • Eagerness to work in an organization in which the dismantling of white supremacy is a high priority
