This role is centered on bringing games to life through high-quality real-time visual effects that enhance gameplay, environments, and cinematic storytelling.
You will design and implement dynamic particle systems and FX that help define the visual identity and emotional impact of interactive experiences.
Working within a collaborative game development environment, you will partner closely with artists, designers, and engineers to ensure seamless in-engine integration.
Your work will span gameplay moments, environmental storytelling, and cinematic sequences, contributing directly to player immersion.
The role requires both technical proficiency and artistic sensitivity to maintain performance while achieving visually striking results.
You will also contribute to defining and evolving the visual language and style of effects across projects.
This is a highly creative and technical position within a fast-paced, production-driven game development studio.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, create, and implement real-time visual effects using both 2D and 3D elements for gameplay, environments, and cinematics.
  • Develop FX textures (including color, normal, specular, ambient occlusion, height, and emissive maps) to support high-quality visual outcomes.
  • Build and maintain FX shaders using node-based shader networks and optimize effects for performance, framerate, and memory constraints.
  • Create simple geometry, UV layouts, and support assets required for real-time FX integration.
  • Place and orchestrate visual effects across gameplay, environmental scenes, and cinematic sequences, ensuring timing and layering enhance storytelling.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate FX properly into the game engine and ensure alignment with artistic direction.
  • Participate in external vendor coordination by preparing briefs, documentation, and asset packages for outsourced FX work.
  • Contribute to maintaining and evolving the visual style of the game while following production standards and feedback loops.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in VFX, game development, or equivalent education and production experience.
  • Strong proficiency with DCC tools such as Maya and Houdini, including simulation, keyframing, and rigging fundamentals.
  • Solid experience with Photoshop for texture creation and editing.
  • Strong understanding of node-based shader systems and real-time FX pipelines.
  • Knowledge of FX optimization techniques for performance, memory, and real-time rendering constraints.
  • Good grasp of animation principles, timing, and traditional art fundamentals.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented production environment.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to interpret feedback effectively.
  • Experience with game engines and proprietary toolsets is a plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive hourly rate: $75 – $90 USD.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Opportunity to work on high-profile, visually rich interactive entertainment projects.
  • Collaborative and creative studio environment focused on innovation and artistic excellence.
  • Exposure to advanced real-time production pipelines and industry-standard tools.
  • Potential for contract extension depending on project needs and performance.
