Position Highlights:
- The Center for Digital Health is a hub of shared services that uses innovative tools and technology to deliver new experiences at Moffitt Cancer Center. It consists of Information Technology, Clinical Informatics, Health Data Services and Digital Innovation. The Clinical Informatics Team Integrates innovative technologies and transformative processes by applying clinical informatics solutions to provide safe, high quality, evidence-based care to our patients and using imaginative solutions that integrate clinical knowledge and a passion for technology.
- The Supervisor, Clinical Informatics plays a critical role in digital innovation within healthcare, working with the Manager of Clinical Informatics and Chief Nursing Informatics officer to execute the goals of The Center for Digital Health in support of Moffitt’s mission and strategy by applying their expertise in the functional areas of clinical informatics and application of its principles and methods to develop, implement, and support innovative technology tools that empower clinicians and investigators to improve patient/consumer care, experiences, and outcomes.
- Some of the specific roles and responsibilities of nursing informatics leaders in digital innovation include:
- Setting the strategic direction for digital innovation within the nursing department
- Developing and managing a budget for digital innovation initiatives
- Hiring and managing a team of nursing informaticians
- Overseeing the development, implementation, and support of clinical information systems and technologies
- Working with clinicians, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure that digital innovation initiatives meet the needs of the organization and its patients
- Evaluating the effectiveness of digital innovation initiatives and making necessary adjustments
Responsibilities:
- MANAGEMENT
- Accountable for department resources and activities for day-today
operations and productivity

- Responsible for supervising, managing, and motivating a team of fixed resources who support the needs of both Inpatient and Ambulatory Clinical and Ancillary Teams through all phases of the system life cycle
- Fosters interprofessional collaboration in the design, development, and deployment of technology in clinical settings
- Facilitates shared governance meetings for councils and operational groups governing clinical system changes
- SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN/ DEVELOPMENT OF SYSTEMS, PRODUCTS, AND RESOURCES
- Guides Clinical Informatics Nurses in documenting and understanding workflow processes and executing gap analyses to ensure that system designs promote a user-centric approach
- Provides leadership support in the selection and design of system and workflow improvements as they relate to the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and clinical technology solutions
- Has knowledge of and supports the use of standard terminologies and interoperability standards such as HL7 and ISO
- COMPLIANCE AND INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT/QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
- Collaborates with quality, patient safety, regulatory, and IT teams to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements for EHR systems to maintain Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT) status
- Acts as a change agent in support of the Informatics Nurses, Moffitt healthcare providers, Nurses, Moffitt team members, and other key stakeholders in decision-making to achieve positive outcomes with the use of information technology
- CONSULTATION
- As part of interprofessional teams, leverages understanding of technology, industry standards and trends, and user needs to define system problems and methods for implementing, utilizing, or modifying existing and/or new solutions to meet user requirements for solutions
- In support of Center for Digital Innovation projects, assigns and supports Clinical Informatics (CI) resources, collaborates with project managers to identify timelines, milestones, and strategy for cross-functional execution of project tasks
- Facilitates identification and communication of project opportunities or threats that may affect timeline or deliverables
- Ensure trade-offs being made during design and development are thoughtfully considered, communicated to stakeholders and end users, and align with the true intent of experiences to be delivered
- COORDINATION, FACILITATION, AND INTEGRATION
- Oversees the assessment, planning, design, development, and implementation of effectively integrated testing scripts for informatics solutions and technologies across all platforms
- Responsible for supporting the client service relationship between the Cancer Center’s providers, nursing community, ancillary associates, and the Center for Digital Health (CDH) Team.
- Participates in and supports staff in cross-functional teams within The CDH working with clinical stakeholders to identify, assess, and evangelize the impacts of new technologies on existing clinical workflows
- EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Advocates for and supports CI Nurses in obtaining ANCC Board Certification in Nursing Informatics and participation in professional organizations
- Participates in and facilitates Clinical Informatics Department Continuing Education (CE) Activities, contributing to the creation of CE producing content and staff development
- Oversees the creation and dissemination of end-user education to support the adoption of changes implemented in the EHR by CI resources
- Collaborates with Informatics Internship/Trainee program leadership to provide meaningful experiences in Clinical Informatics to novice Informaticists and graduate students.
- INFORMATION MANAGEMENT/OPERATIONAL ARCHITECTURE
- Identifies and prioritizes opportunities and solutions by leveraging insights from user requests, discovery meetings, and data analysis to ensure CI efforts are aligned with overall digital strategy and organizational needs.
- Maintains system enhancement and application request backlogs and methodology for prioritization of user ideas to ensure alignment with the overarching strategy and to focus CI resources on high-impact items.
- Collaborates with Information Technology, Digital Innovation, Health Data Services, and clinical service lines to coordinate efforts to improve systems based on user input.
- RESEARCH AND EVALUATION
- Provides direction to CI resources who integrate healthcare science with multiple information and analytical sciences to define, manage, and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in clinical practice in collaboration with DI, HDS, and IT to support research efforts by multiple disciplines, including nursing
- Advises departments on policy content related to HER documentation workflow processes
Credentials and Experience:
- Master’s Degree – Nursing (This role is a professional occupation that requires a master’s degree in nursing with an Informatics focus OR a Healthcare/Business Management related field)
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting
- Minimum three (3) years experience in a Clinical Analyst or Informatics position with verifiable Electronic Health Record (EHR) training, support, and/or implementation experience.
- Minimum one (1) year of supervisor or management experience and/or Completion of structured leadership development program
Licensure/Certification
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- ANCC – Only American Nurses Credentialing Center (Informatics Certification)
