About This Position
Position Description: GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director of Public & Government Relations will coordinate and participate in developing the organization's marketing strategies. The Assistant Director will collaborate to align department goals and objectives with the high-demand occupations, labor market data, and the local and state, creating opportunities to move the agency forward through outreach and marketing campaigns, job fairs, and local events to support job seekers and employers.
Under the direction of the Director of Public & Govt. Relations: This is an agency-wide leadership position, assisting and developing outreach, marketing, and brand alignment for Workforce Solutions Alamo. This role accesses, initiates, coordinates, and executes all agency marketing and outreach campaigns and communication strategies. These roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Generating concepts for improved marketing and outreach strategies.
- Coordinate and execute major agency marketing initiatives.
- Utilize storytelling to communicate the agency's mission, vision, and goals effectively.
- Provides clear, concise, and consistent in all formal and information communications.
- Providing data related to the agencys marketing and outreach strategies, which may include staff training and development to effectively communicate the agency's message.
- Provides leadership to staff, including supervision of assigned staff and interns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing/Advertising
- Serves as the Workforce Solutions Alamo lead in developing and administrating marketing and branding initiatives covering the agency focus area: community and civic engagement, career development, recruiting, and workforce development.
- Assesses, Initiates, designs, executes, and manages clear, concise, and consistent marketing and communication plans, campaigns, calendars, and content for the agency to ensure constant brand messaging and awareness.
- Serves as the lead organizer and project manager for special events.
- Develops, tracks, and measures marketing goals and objectives.
- Manages online social media presence, digital campaigns, and all related strategies, including the department website and social media forums.
- Assists with visualizing relevant data to help tell the agency story to key stakeholders (e.g., annual reports).
- Works collaboratively with staff to initiate and execute effective marketing campaigns related to the agencys operations, resources, and initiatives.
- Continually research best practices to ensure the maximum utilization of all marketing and branding initiatives, developing processes, training, and updates.
Public Relations/Social Networking
- Monitors and maintains social networking sites and content.
- Identifies opportunities to leverage media coverage of organization activities.
- Schedules and conducts interviews and news conferences.
- Monitors media, implementation of media campaigns, events, and information disseminated.
- Develops and executes materials for campaigns to promote WSA programs.
- Implements outreach and engagement activities.
Special Events
- Evaluate and administer short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Coordinate the planning, development, and execution of WSA events.
- Assists with contracts, prepares, and manages budgets and cost/benefit analyses, and produces detailed recaps after each event.
- Conducts post-event surveys for data collection and distributes findings to Board staff and contractors.
Community Programs
- Acts as liaison between WSA and community-based programs/organizations.
- Implements education programs to inform the community of WSA-funded services and programs.
- Identifies relevant partnerships to enhance WSA programs and services.
- Maintains community database for dissemination of information.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director of Public & Govt Relations will be responsible for the supervision of all staff assigned to that respective unit and monitor and evaluate job performance in accordance with agency expectations. Develop and Implement Training and Capacity Building of assigned staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong working knowledge and expertise in marketing and public relations.
- Knowledge of the local labor market and area education and training institutes is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of the region and working relationships with media, community organizations, and the marketing/public relations community.
- Thorough understanding of market developments, marketing strategies, and practices
- Ability to collaborate with diverse interest groups (including business, education, and government) to identify and solve problems.
- Knowledge in graphic design and video editing software such as Canva and Abode Creative Suite.
- Demonstrable ability to collect data from internal and external sources and provide analysis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in writing, editing, speaking, and listening.
- Ability to function effectively individually and as a member of a team.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Proficient in using Microsoft products.
- Exercise skill in using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, communications, marketing, or a related field is required. A minimum of 5 years of related experience and a minimum of 3-5 years in a supervisory role is required. Work with public or non-profit organizations preferred.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Will require occasional in-region and out-of-region travel; Must have proof of valid drivers license and current auto insurance; must provide own transportation when on company business.
