Objective and Position Summary

The SMI Rehabilitation Specialist plays a pivotal role in helping individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) achieve their personal goals and enhance their quality of life. As a key member of our clinical team, you will be responsible for engaging with members, their families, and various community resources to coordinate and deliver comprehensive behavioral health services. This position utilizes the Boston University Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program Team Approach (IPRPT) to help clients reach their desired goals in living, learning, working, and social environments. You will work closely with the Clinical Coordinator to ensure that all services prescribed in the individualized service plan (ISP) are effectively implemented, monitored, and adjusted as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

To qualify for the role of SMI Rehabilitation Specialist, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Educational Background:
    • Master's degree or bachelor's degree in a field related to behavioral health, OR
    • Bachelor's degree with at least one year of full-time behavioral health work experience, OR
    • Associate's degree with at least two years of full-time behavioral health work experience, OR
    • High school diploma or equivalent with relevant post-high school education and behavioral health work experience.
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications:
    • Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP) certification, or a commitment to obtaining this certification within a specified time frame.
Skills and Competencies
  • Behavioral Health Expertise: Strong knowledge of behavioral health disorders, treatment modalities, and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Care Coordination: Experience in coordinating care across multiple providers and community resources.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation: Familiarity with vocational rehabilitation principles and the ability to guide members towards employment and community integration.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and educate members and their families.
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural issues and an understanding of diverse community practices, especially in working with low-income and at-risk populations.
