Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The Health Unit Coordinator, performs general receptionist, clerical and support duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit. Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and House Supervisor, through communication, requisitioning and management and stocking of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, patients, physicians, and other hospital departments and visitors.
In addition, while working in the Safe Companion role under the supervision of an RN, provides services of an observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation in order to maximize his/her safety. Promotes the therapeutic environment and patient-centered care. Monitors the safety of patient activity continuously throughout the duration of the shift.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year of clerical experience
- Knowledge of computer programs and office equipment
- BLSP within 30 days of hire
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training required upon hire.
PREFERRED:
- Associates Degree and acute care facility or medical office experience as a Medical Assistant
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
