About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The Legislative Affairs Coordinator will provide systematic support to advance the efforts of Moffitt’s Government Relations Department. The Government Relations Department is charged with leading the planning, development, and execution of engagement with Congress, the Executive Branches of the U.S. and Florida governments, State Legislature, and local elected officials/municipalities to educate, advise, and advocate for Moffitt Cancer Center’s interests and policy priorities. Communication of Moffitt Cancer Center’s interests is guided by goals and milestones laid out in the Strategic Plan, and the recommendations of Moffitt’s senior staff.
Under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Government Relations, this position will work closely with the Government Relations Department team members to strategize and execute efforts and identify opportunities to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of various initiatives aimed at advancing the Department’s goals and Moffitt’s Mission. This position requires legislative coordination and advocacy experience, as well as excellent organizational skills.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree Political Science, Business or Public Administration, Public Health or related field
- Relevant internship and/or
- Engagement in master’s degree program in relevant field(s) Valued
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/SPECIALIZED TRAINING
Minimum Experience Required
One (1) year experience working on legislative and advocacy issues.
Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required
- Understanding of the political, legislative, and administrative processes at all levels of government.
- Experience advocating for health care issues and collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational and analytic skills with consistent attention to detail.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate proactiveness.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
- Ability to adjust and work efficiently from a variety of locations, including Moffitt’s offices in Tampa and Tallahassee; travel to Washington, DC and other locations throughout the state required as needed.
