Position Information
Reporting to the Skilled Crafts Trades Supervisor in the Facilities Services Maintenance Department, the Lead Sheet Metal Welder performs journey-level work related to the fabrication, assembly, installation and repair of sheet metal products and equipment. Oversees critical day-to-day operations in supervisor's absence and acts as subject matter expert who provides leadership to team members. Operates and trains others on fabricating machines, equipment, methods and materials used in performing various welding operations. Performs project estimating of time, labor and materials, places orders, and receives materials for all projects. Maintains clear and accurate documentation of all inspections, testing, and corrective/preventative maintenance performed. Reviews and updates all shop logs (paper and electronic) according to all changes. Reviews and creates blueprints/drawings and specifications for new construction and retrofit/renovation projects according to building code requirements. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours to mitigate and/or resolve immediate concerns and correct safety issues. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude for the team and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.The full salary range for the Sheet Medal Worker is $44.91 - $50.56 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

| Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, man-lifts, and boom trucks or stages at varying heights of up to 25 feet above grade; ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to preform repetitive loading, pushing, pulling, carry, move and manipulate various building materials. |
| Ability to work around and be exposed to unpleasant smells and possible dangerous hazardous substances. |
| Knowledge of installation, maintenance, operation, and inspection related to welding or sheet metal fabrication. |
| Knowledge in various welding techniques such as: shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, and/or electroslag welding. |
| Knowledge in cutting, bending, assembling of various metals; experience with breaks, shears, threaders, bending, forging, forming and machining. |
| Basic knowledge and technical skills with computer programs and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Design Cad 2, etc.). |
| Knowledge of UC/UCR policies and systems. |
