Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Assisting the unit manager in supervising and training Treatment Technicians in the designated living unit. Assisting the unit manager in ensuring staffing, safety of residents, and physical conditions meet state and licensing regulations, helping the unit manager with the overall behavior management of residents, and working within the unit’s budget. Assists the unit manager with reporting and documenting youth’s progress, attending court hearings, and serving as a contact person for families and community partners regarding clients.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Unit Responsibilities

  • Responsible for knowing, following, and implementing all DHS 50 & 34 licensing regulations with a focus on client rights, unit staffing, safety, treatment, and overall physical conditions of the unit.
  • Assist with the intake process as needed to support the Manager and ensure a positive transition of care for residents and families.
  • Review and send required records to placing or ongoing case managers (ex., Incident reports and progress notes only after careful review of them from the unit manager)
  • Ensure Trauma-Informed Care principles are modeled and practiced by staff members in collaboration with the therapist, unit manager, and out-of-home care coordinator as a model for behavior management in the unit.
  • Responsible for providing weekly activity schedules for staff to follow all non-school time with residents and ensure these activities are followed consistently.
  • Responsible for all medication administration procedures being followed consistently during shifts by staff members.
  • Responsible for ensuring that staff members follow all reporting procedures during shifts. These include but are not limited to, accurate incident reporting, accurate status forms, and appropriate internal and external communication and notification.
  • Responsible for all Nonviolent Crisis Intervention practices followed, including restraint or seclusion practices.
  • Responsible for meeting with the Unit Manager weekly to ensure consistency in expectations and procedures.
  • Facilitate consistent communication between staff on the same shift and other shifts. This includes, but is not limited to, unit log entries, point sheet documentation, and verbal information sharing.
  • Responsible for staff interactive supervision of residents always during shift.
  • Responsible for other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Complete a discharge plan for every youth.
  • In consultation with the Unit Manager, coordinate passes for residents and families.
  • Review and Case notes/Progress accurate and timely

Supervision Responsibilities

  • Assist in building a cohesive team that aligns with organizational policies, maintains discipline, and recognizes achievements.
  • Foster a caring atmosphere within the team.
  • Maintain a positive approach to treatment.
  • Provide feedback to the unit manager to assist in evaluating youth care staff.
  • Support the Unit Manager in training youth care workers by monitoring, educating, and role-modeling appropriate youth care skills.
  • Promote positive relationships among all departments and programs at Lad Lake.
  • Ensure the implementation and adherence to our Trauma-Informed Care philosophy.

Responsibilities to Residents

  • Attend evaluation conferences and participate in unit intakes and discharges as requested.
  • Collaborate with the unit manager to implement each resident’s treatment plan.
  • Work with residents to develop skills to help them succeed in their home community.
  • Facilitate skill-building groups for residents once a week.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education/Experience: Must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, related field, or special education with certification for emotional disturbance or learning disabilities and experience specifically related to the client population served.
  • Have at least two years of experience in public or private institutional childcare for the type of population being served.
  • Can demonstrate that they meet the requirements of the Lad Lake Youth Care 3 level. Must also be certified through Professional Level CYC Certification Institute’s Youth Care Certification through the Wisconsin Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals (WACYCP) within 3 months of being hired.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that meets the company’s guidelines.

Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks; practical coaching skills for staff; strong analytical skills; and proficiency in interpersonal communication with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the agency. Capable of interacting and connecting with youth to build relationships that foster their learning, growth, and success. Competent in collaborating with other youth care workers to develop these same skills.
