Coding Specialist at Cass Health – Atlantic, Iowa

The Coding/Reimbursement Specialist is responsible for the review and evaluation of medical records in order to assign appropriate ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 CPT level of service and other designated codes so that the patient account can be properly charged.

Analyze medical records for completeness according to standards established by the Medical Records Committee and other licensing agencies.

Identifies and codes medical records for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis(es), operation(s), and procedure(s) using the ICD-10-CM classification system.

Examines forms in the medical record to assure that all forms contained in the medical record pertain to the one patient, i.e. verify patient and patient number.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of medical terminology, asks questions to clarify misunderstandings.

Follow-up and resubmittal of claim denials.

Follow-up on deficient/delinquent medical records to assure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and organizational rules and regulations.

Work closely with physicians and staff for clinical documentation process improvement.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
