Physician Liaison in Darien, Illinois at One Health Partners PLLC
Job Description
ONE HEALTH PARTNERS
Physician Liaison, Specialty Referral Development
POSITION SUMMARY
The Physician Liaison grows OHP's specialty patient panels. The role builds referral pathways that bring clinically appropriate patients to the right OHP specialist, both between OHP specialties and from outside practices into OHP. The focus is on patients with complex chronic and immune-mediated conditions who may benefit from advanced therapies available through OHP's ACE program. The ideal candidate combines a clinical background with healthcare marketing experience. They understand which patients each specialty is built to serve and can turn provider relationships into a reliable, well-matched referral funnel.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Funnel Strategy & Patient Fit
• Work with specialty leads to define the target patient profile for each therapeutic area, including conditions, disease severity, and treatment history that match each specialty's capabilities and advanced therapy programs.
• Translate those profiles into referral criteria, screening prompts, and messaging that help referring providers send the right patients at the right time.
• Monitor referral quality, not just volume, and flag mismatches back to referral sources.
Internal cross-specialty referrals (within OHP)
• Build referral pathways between OHP specialties where conditions overlap, such as psoriasis to PsA screening (Derm to Rheum), IBD with joint symptoms (GI to Rheum), uveitis (Ophtho to Rheum), and uncontrolled asthma or atopic disease (PCP to Allergy/Pulm/Derm).
• Partner with clinic operations to embed referral triggers and streamlined order workflows in eCW.
• Identify and close internal referral leakage, meaning patients referred outside OHP when an in-network specialist was available.
External Referral Development (non-OHP sources)
• Develop a tiered territory plan for independent PCPs, urgent care, assisted living facilities (ALFs), senior living, and health systems.
• Explain OHP's specialty differentiators to referring offices: access, multidisciplinary care, on-site infusion and advanced therapy programs, specialty programs, and research access.
• Onboard new referral sources with referral guides, required records, and closed-loop communication.
Marketing & Communications
• Create provider-facing materials by therapeutic area, such as condition one-pagers, referral criteria cards, and program launch announcements.
• Coordinate peer-to-peer introductions, lunch-and-learns, and educational events with OHP specialists.
Analytics and reporting
• Report on referral volume and source mix by specialty, referral-to-seen conversion, time to new-patient appointment, new-source acquisition, and referral appropriateness rate.
• Partner with leadership to align outreach priorities with specialty capacity and service-line growth goals.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in healthcare, life sciences, marketing or business.
• 3+ years in physician liaison, provider relations, or specialty pharma/biologics sales.
• Clinical fluency across immune-mediated and chronic conditions.
• Experience managing a territory with CRM-based tracking.
PREFERRED
• Biologics or specialty pharmacy background (immunology, GI, derm, respiratory).
• Clinical credential (RN, LPN, or MA) or equivalent hands-on clinical experience.
• Experience with eCW and referral management workflows.
• Existing Chicagoland provider relationships.
• Working knowledge of Anti-Kickback, Stark, and 340B compliance considerations.
COMPLIANCE EXPECTATIONS
All referral development must rest on clinical appropriateness and patient access. The liaison may not offer anything of value to induce referrals. They may not influence product selection, site-of-care decisions, or prescribing, which remain the treating clinician's decision.
