Schedule: Temporary internship (approximately 3 months); up to 29 hours per week, Monday through Friday during regular business hours

THE POSITION: Supplier Quality Intern

The Supplier Quality Intern will support supplier quality and continuous improvement initiatives within our manufacturing operation, helping ensure that materials, components, and finished products meet The Shade Store's quality standards. Working closely with the Quality team and cross-functional partners in Purchasing, Production, and Customer Service, this role will contribute to incoming inspections, supplier performance tracking, quality investigations, and process improvement efforts.

Based in our manufacturing facility, this position offers hands-on experience in supplier quality management, material inspections, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to learn, with an interest in manufacturing processes, problem-solving, and building strong supplier partnerships.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support incoming inspection of fabrics, hardware, motors, and other components against specifications and quality standards.
• Help track and analyze supplier quality data, including defect rates, nonconformances, and on-time delivery, to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Assist in documenting and following up on supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and root cause investigations.
• Help create and update inspection procedures, work instructions, and quality checklists.
• Work with Purchasing, Production, and Customer Service teams to resolve quality issues that affect production or customers.
• Take part in supplier audits, first article inspections, and new material qualifications as opportunities come up.
• Support continuous improvement projects using tools such as 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, and Pareto analysis.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
• Strong communication, technical writing, and problem solving skills.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Visio (or similar tools).
• Comfortable spending time on the shop floor, observing operations, and interacting with production personnel.
• Self-motivated, organized, and attentive to detail.
• Ability to stand, walk, and conduct facility inspections for extended periods, and lift up to 25 pounds.
