Crusher Foreman/Operator at County of Huerfano (CO) – Walsenburg, Colorado

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs skilled work related to equipment operation and operates a variety of specialized heavy equipment to facilitate the construction and maintenance of all facets of county roads and bridges as directed by the Road and Bridge Supervisor or Operator/Shop Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform pre-shift and post shift inspection of plant and equipment.

Maintain awareness of maintenance needs and coordinate with maintenance staff.

Comply with all MSHA regulations.

Perform repairs and maintenance on plant as needed.

Maintain all required documentation (timecards, site paperwork, reports) as required by management and regulating agencies.

Efficiently and safely oversee production of portable aggregate plant.

Assist in set up and tear down of aggregate crushing plant.

Act as jobsite point of contact for management and regulating agencies.

Must have the ability to supervise own work and work of others on location.

First Aid / CPR Card.

Ability to delegate specific tasks.

Must be able to climb ladders, and stairs.

Prepares and maintains records, reports, and work areas.

Safelyoperatesavarietyofspecializedheavyandlightequipmentasneededtofacilitatethe construction and maintenance of all facets of County roads and bridges.

Builds and maintains roads, loads, and transports materials or equipment.

Performs daily inspections (annual DOT,etc.) and preventive maintenance on all commercial and county-owned vehicles and equipment. Performs commercial vehicle maintenance as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Participatesinappropriatetrainingprogramstomaintainrequiredcertificationsandincreaseskill levels.

Communicates concerns and issues to the Road and Bridge Supervisor and/or Human Resource personnel.

Performs annual evaluations of assigned road crew; complies with purchasing policy; manages fuel logs and fuel inspections.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and/or ability to safely operate and perform routine maintenance on various types of heavy and light construction and maintenance equipment. Knowledge of road construction and maintenance materials and methods. Ability to apply safety policies and procedures to various work environments and situations. Ability to understand and apply county policies, understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to take initiative and make good decisions, identify and correct problems on the job site. Computer skills.

TRAINING AND/OR EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED. Must possess valid unrestricted Colorado State Class A Commercial Driver’s License or obtain within 6 months of hire. Must be able to pass required Department of Transportation physical and pre-employment drug test with a negative result, and pass a background investigation. Subject to random drug/alcohol testing to meet Federal Motor Carrier requirements of the position. Must be able to achieve Newly Hired Experience Minor Record/Certificate within one year of employment. Must have a valid certificate of flagging within one year of employment date and must be able to maintain certification of flagging while employed with Huerfano County. Must have a valid Medical Examiners Certificate.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS:

This position may be assigned to report to duty at any Road and Bridge shop location, including the Waste Transfer Station. Required to operate rock crushing equipment.

Working hours may vary including shift work, holidays, and weekends.
