About This Position
ASSOCIATE ENGINEER: $49.77 - $60.50/hour
ASSISTANT ENGINEER: $43.73 - $52.72/hour
Appointments will be made to either position, depending on qualifications.
The Position:
The Development Services Department is seeking two (2) motivated engineers to join its Wastewater Division as an Associate or Assistant Engineer, depending on qualifications. Positions in this classification support the planning, design, construction, and rehabilitation of public wastewater infrastructure, including sewer collection systems, pipeline rehabilitation, and capital improvement projects. The ideal candidate is a collaborative professional who demonstrates sound engineering judgement, strong communication skills, and an interest in working on public-sector infrastructure projects that directly serve the community.

The Recruitment Process:
At the Associate Engineer level, incumbents may be assigned lead or project management responsibilities on wastewater capital projects.
Education:
- Associate Engineer: Educational achievement equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering. Possession of California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer is desirable.
- Assistant Engineer: Educational achievement equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate from the State of California.
- Associate Engineer: At least three (3) years of civil engineering experience involving design and construction of wastewater infrastructure, including some supervisory experience.
- Assistant Engineer: At least one (1) year of full-time experience in civil engineering in the area(s) of design or construction of wastewater infrastructure.
