About This Position
Summary:
Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class is responsible for technical work involving the operation of ultrasound equipment for the purpose of taking ultrasound scans of various designated portions of the body to assist physicians in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and abnormalities in both adults and children. Work involves performing diagnostic procedures, proper positioning of the patient, maintenance and adjustment of ultrasound equipment, and maintenance of ultrasound files. This level is distinguished from the Ultrasonography Technologist in that this is the full performance level with incumbents performing a full range of ultrasound procedures independently. Supervision is not a regular responsibility of this class; however, incumbents may act as lead workers over Ultrasonography Technologists, non-professional and clerical support staff in the way of quality control of work, and providing technical assistance. Does related work as required.
Education/Experience:
Two years of experience (pre- or post-certification) in a hospital radiology department or private radiological service, where the primary function was performing diagnostic work using ultrasound equipment.
Licenses/Certifications:
Possession of certification and registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as either a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Sonography (primary or post-primary), Vascular Sonography, or Breast Sonography; and two years of experience (pre- or post-certification) in a hospital radiology department or private radiological service, where the primary function was performing diagnostic work using ultrasound equipment.
