Senior Project Superintendent at Slsco Ltd – Texas
About This Position
SLS is seeking a highly experienced Senior Superintendent to lead field execution of a federal government vertical construction projects. This position serves as the senior field authority responsible for day-to-day site operations, subcontractor coordination, schedule execution, safety enforcement, quality compliance, and adherence to federal contracting requirements.
The Senior Superintendent will lead construction activities for a large-scale federal facility project valued in excess of $25 million and will operate in a secure government environment requiring strict compliance with access control, security protocols, and federal oversight standards.
The Superintendent reports to the Project Manager or Project Executive and works in close coordination with the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), Quality Control (QC) Manager, and field supervision staff. The Superintendent regularly interfaces with government representatives and Government Quality Assurance personnel and is accountable for field-level execution of the approved plans, specifications, and schedules.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior on-site construction authority for all vertical construction activities.
- Lead daily construction operations, ensuring work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Oversee subcontractors, suppliers, and self-perform forces to ensure productivity, sequencing, and adherence to schedule.
- Coordinate work among trades to minimize conflicts and maintain continuous workflow.
- Actively manage coordination with the design team during preconstruction and active construction.
- Lead constructability reviews and participate in value engineering exercises.
- Identify design conflicts, develop field solutions, and coordinate resolution with the Designer of Record.
- Support development, negotiation, and execution of change orders.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal contracting requirements, including:
- FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation)
- Project-specific safety standards
- Quality control procedures
- Government reporting and documentation requirements
- Interface directly with the Contracting Officer (CO), Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR), and government inspectors.
- Enforce compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific Accident Prevention Plans.
- Coordinate with the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to maintain safe operations.
- Conduct regular site safety meetings and inspections.
- Work closely with the Quality Control Manager to ensure:
- Proper implementation of the Three-Phase Control Process
- Inspection and testing activities are executed per the approved Quality Control Plan
- Timely resolution of deficiencies
- Manage site activities within secure federal facilities, including:
- Access control procedures
- Personnel badging requirements
- Escort protocols
- Material delivery restrictions
- Ensure strict adherence to all DHS/CBP security requirements.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and Scheduler to maintain the baseline schedule.
- Identify and mitigate schedule risks.
- Lead recovery planning when required.
- Maintain cost awareness and prevent rework or productivity losses.
- Identify and resolve complex field issues involving design conflicts, logistics constraints, or subcontractor performance.
- Maintain documentation suitable for government review and potential claims defense.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- Ten (10) or more years of experience in the construction industry.
- Five (5) or more years of experience as a Superintendent on civil, vertical, or infrastructure construction projects, including projects valued at $25 million or greater.
- Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors and self-perform work in a federal construction environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing design coordination, constructability reviews, and value engineering.
- Proven record of delivering federal projects on time and within budget.
- Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1, safety execution, and federal construction site requirements.
- Prior experience on NAVFAC, USACE, or other DoD projects
- Ability to manage multiple crews, subcontractors, and work activities simultaneously.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification (required)
- USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors (required)
- Membership in professional organizations such as:
- Associated General Contractors (AGC)
- Construction Management Association of America (CMAA)
- Or similar recognized industry organizations
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to interface professionally with Government representatives.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on Design-Build federal construction projects.
