Pay Structure:

$25.00 for a 30-minute personal training session

$45.00 for a 60-minute personal training session

Type: Part-Time – Non-Exempt

Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week (Flexible Schedule)

Reports to: Wellness Director

Department Overview

The Wellness Department plays a pivotal role in advancing the YMCA’s mission of healthy living by creating inclusive, safe, and engaging environments that support physical well-being for members of all ages and abilities. Through fitness centers, group exercise classes, personal training, and community health initiatives, the department fosters lifelong wellness habits.

Benefits You’ll Receive

  • Complimentary YMCA Membership for Part-Time employees. An additional adult family member may be added for $20 per month.

What You’ll Do

Member Coaching & Fitness Support

  • Actively participate on the wellness floor as a Personal Trainer, assisting members with equipment usage and exercise guidance.
  • Provide comprehensive fitness assessments for members and clients to establish baseline health and fitness levels.
  • Develop and deliver personalized exercise programs tailored to individual goals, abilities, and needs.
  • Ensure exercise programs produce measurable results while maintaining client satisfaction and engagement.
  • Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of exercise techniques, training methods, and safe equipment use.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of all wellness center equipment (Matrix Fitness Equipment) and provide instruction on proper use.

Client Engagement & Personal Training

  • Provide professional personal training sessions for members and clients.
  • Maintain availability that supports member scheduling needs.
  • Promote YMCA wellness services and encourage member participation in programs and training opportunities.
  • Incorporate the YMCA’s four core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility into all member interactions.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate documentation of all training sessions and client interactions in accordance with YMCA administrative procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate recordkeeping and follow up with clients on fitness progress.
  • Complete required reports or documentation related to personal training services.

Professional Development

  • Maintain current certifications and obtain required Continuing Education Credits (CECs).
  • Participate in staff development opportunities and trainings.
  • Support department initiatives such as:
  • Health education workshops
  • Staff trainings
  • Newsletters or wellness articles
  • Community wellness programs

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Adhere to YMCA policies regarding professional boundaries with members and participants.
  • Attend and complete all required abuse risk management training.
  • Follow procedures related to supervising participants and managing high-risk activities.
  • Comply with all mandated reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to all job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Associates degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field, or equivalent health and fitness experience.
  • Current certification from a nationally recognized organization such as:
  • ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)
  • NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
  • NETA (National Exercise Trainers Association)
  • NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine)
  • ACE (American Council on Exercise)
  • CPR/AED
  • Child Abuse Prevention
