Environmental Services Worker at Appalachian Regional Healthcare System – Boone, North Carolina

Location: Boone, North Carolina | Part-time | Days & Weekends 6:55am - 3:25pm

As an Environmental Service Worker at UNC Health Appalachian, you’ll help maintain a clean, safe, and healing environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. Your work ensures the highest standards of infection control and safety while supporting the overall patient experience. • Compensation: Starting pay begins at $15.00 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education.
• Schedule: Variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.

• Perform general cleaning assignments including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing.
• Strip and refinish floors, perform carpet cleaning and extraction, and safely handle waste removal.
• Maintain compliance with infection control and hospital sanitation procedures.
• Securely dispose of confidential documents in accordance with facility policies.
• Restock cleaning supplies and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns.
• Follow all safety protocols and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Collaborate with hospital staff to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for all.
• Assist with emergency cleaning or special projects as needed.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.

Experience:

• Prior experience in environmental services or healthcare preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

• None required.

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong attention to detail and adherence to established cleaning protocols.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and visitors.
• Knowledge of infection control and sanitation standards.
• Dependable, organized, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting throughout the shift.
• Lift, push, pull, or carry up to and over 50 lbs.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, mechanical equipment, and hospital environment risks.
• Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.
• May work irregular hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
