Reports to: Quality Manager Work Location: Clear Lake, SD
Functional Area: Quality/Test Lab Required Travel: none
Exempt Status: Exempt Salary Range: $67,000+ /DOE
Schedule: Monday-Thursday

Job Summary: The Test Engineer will be responsible for developing product performance test plans and assuring conformance of existing test plans to customer specifications. This position will also be responsible for development of test hardware and equipment setups. They will be working with the product (project) engineering group to assure the most efficient and accurate methods for product testing.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Writes new test plans and reviews existing test plans for assuring conformance to customer specifications.
  2. Develops and maintains test setups and equipment including generations of engineering drawings &schematics and tooling design & ordering.
  3. Designs and builds electrical test circuits and data acquisition setups.
  4. Provides training on the proper use of equipment.
  5. Supports test technicians in the Test Lab in training, setups, and troubleshooting problems.
  6. Works with product (project) engineering to troubleshoot performance issues found during testing or being evaluated by testing.
  7. Evaluates potential technology upgrades.
  8. Hosts customer visits and tours of testing facilities.
  9. Performs statistical analysis of data to characterize product performance and test repeatability.
  10. Supports test readiness reviews with customers.
  11. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Required Knowledge and Skills/Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility.
  3. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.
  4. B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering; or has demonstrated experience performing most if not all essential job functions.
  5. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, primarily Excel, and demonstrated ability to learn and master application specific software is required.
  6. Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and specifications. (2D or 3D CAD)
  7. Ability to work effectively with other employees as part of a team.
  8. Ability to set and establish priorities.
  9. Ability to multi-task in support of end-result/goal.
  10. Excellent organizational skills.
  11. Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.
  12. Function specific RCRA training upon hire.
  13. An affinity to electrical engineering/testing with a knowledge in mechanical design tolerancing is preferred.
  14. Related experience in quality conformance testing is preferred.
  15. Familiarity/quick to grasp for operation of: Oscilloscopes, Vibration Equipment, Vision System, X-Ray System, and electrical inspection equipment (IR Meter, Resistance Meter, ESD tester, etc.) is preferred.

  1. Ability to talk and hear in order to communicate with others.
  2. Seated work is variable and required for up to 70% of the workday.
  3. Frequently required to stand and/or walk both indoors and outdoors.
  4. Extensive computer use is required.
  5. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; as well as reach with hands and arms.
  6. Lifting of 10 pounds is required. Occasionally required to move materials up to 50 pounds by lifting, pushing or pulling and rarely greater than 50 pounds with assistance.
  7. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.
  8. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives.
  9. Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility.
  10. Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD). Employees must also wear company issued safety footwear.
