Job Overview

A well-established civil construction contractor specializing in public water and sewer infrastructure projects is seeking an experienced Accounting Clerk / Bookkeeper to support daily financial operations. This role is essential to maintaining accurate payroll, billing, and accounts payable processes for prevailing wage projects throughout Massachusetts.

The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, experienced in construction accounting, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. Key Responsibilities
  • Process weekly payroll, including prevailing wage compliance and certified payroll reporting

  • Manage accounts payable, including vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and job cost coding

  • Generate and manage customer billing, including progress billings for public works projects

  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and general ledger accounts

  • Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with company and regulatory standards

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures

  • Support project managers with cost tracking and documentation

  • Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems

  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal staff regarding payment inquiries

  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of all financial data

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping

  • Proven experience in payroll processing, billing, and accounts payable

  • Experience with construction accounting strongly preferred

  • Proficiency in CF Data software (required)

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (required)

  • Strong understanding of prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting preferred

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with field and office teams
