Responsibilities
The Business Development Professional plays a key role in driving revenue growth by identifying new business opportunities and expanding relationships across industries that rely on land surveying and geospatial data for the Northeast Area of SAM with a focus on the Boston metro area and New England. This role focuses on developing strategic partnerships, opening doors, securing new clients, and promoting SAM’s full suite of services:
- Land Surveying
- Utility Locating
- Aerial Mapping
- Construction Monitoring
- Laser Sanning/BIM
- GIS
The ideal candidate understands the geospatial industry and has experience engaging technical and executive stakeholders across markets such as utilities, transportation, and government. This role is well suited for professionals transitioning from technical/management roles who are interested in applying their industry expertise to client development and strategic growth.
This role also serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their designated market sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Area Leadership to develop and execute strategic sales plans aligned with company growth objectives.
- Identify, develop, and pursue new business opportunities within target markets and geographic regions focused on the New England states (MA, CT, RI, NH, ME, VT).
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and key industry stakeholders.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies related to SAM services.
- Identify new vertical market opportunities, potential partnerships, and areas for service expansion.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to develop client solutions and proposals, along with strategies in response to RFPs and project opportunities.
- Support proposal development by coordinating with subject matter experts, contributing to strategy, and helping articulate SAM’s technical capabilities.
- Perform client engagement efforts, including meeting preparation, research, and presentations.
- Maintain accurate pipeline activity and client engagement tracking within Salesforce.
- Track, plan and represent SAM as a subject matter expert at industry events, conferences, and professional organizations.
Additional Expectations:
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time to meet with clients, attend industry events, and support business development initiatives.
- Active participation in industry associations and professional organizations related to land surveying, geospatial, and civil engineering such as ACEC, ASCE, WTS, MALSCE, etc.
- Commitment to staying informed on industry developments, market trends, and emerging technologies.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in geospatial, surveying, engineering, or related infrastructure industries.
- Demonstrated experience in business development, client relationship management, or technical consulting.
- Experience using CRM platforms, such as Salesforce, to track opportunities and manage pipelines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage both technical and executive stakeholders.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities, priorities, and deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
- The ability to collaborate and make decisions for the good of the team and the business.
