About This Position

Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Flight Line Operator is responsible for the ground-based aviation operations involving aircraft on the airport apron and in the hangar areas. The tasks include marshalling aircraft, towing them to and from hangars, fueling aircraft, providing basic services like lavatory and ground power unit servicing, and ensuring the safe, efficient movement of passengers and cargo upon arrival and departure, all while adhering to strict aviation safety regulations. The position also includes maintaining the grounds and field through runway light changes, grass mowing, and light facility maintenance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)

  • To coordinate aircraft parking locations on the apron and to marshal the aircraft safely into and out of these locations.
  • Operate and maintain aircraft towing equipment for the repositioning of based and transient aircraft into hangars or maintenance facilities.
  • To fuel piston engine, turbopropeller, and jet aircraft using single point and over-the-wing fueling techniques.
  • Greet customers, aircrews, and passengers with an interest in serving their aviation needs with a friendly and helpful demeanor.
  • Provide light maintenance duties on the airport’s facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
  • To operate and maintain grounds keeping equipment for the maintenance of the airfield using mowers, tractors, and blowers.
  • Receive and test 100LL and Jet-A fuel loads for acceptance upon delivery.
  • Maintain fueling logs and maintenance records for daily fueling activities.
  • Communicate over a radio to provide airport and weather advisories to arriving and departing aircrews.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Drivers License and eligibility to work in the US.
  • Aviation experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Capable of working outdoors and in inclement weather.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, and leadership.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and troubleshoot minor maintenance issues.
  • Basic computer skills for invoicing customers.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving the lifting of no more than 70 pounds at a time, working around the smell of fuels and lubricants, pulling fueling hoses, climbing ladders, and working with hand tools. The pace of activity requires prioritization of activity and the focus on individual tasks to maintain a safe environment and to prevent future accidents. This must be accomplished outdoors in varying temperature and weather conditions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position involves working both indoors and outdoors. Indoor activities involve sitting at a dispatch counter operating a radio and invoicing customers who have received fuel and other services using a desktop computer. Outdoor conditions involve walking, driving equipment and refueling trucks, opening sliding hangar doors, lifting baggage and assisting customers. This is done with an awareness of both scheduled and unscheduled fueling and aircraft towing orders.
