Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary:
Access Services Technicians provide support to the Access Services department of Falvey Library. Technicians are responsible for conducting the following tasks:

  • Provide in-person customer service at the library service desk. Conduct circulation transactions for patrons and answer patron questions. Search for materials in the library catalog for patrons and direct patrons to reference librarians for research assistance. Process requests and materials for the Pickup & Go holds service. Answer incoming phone calls to the library service desk.
  • Shelve returned books and maintain book stacks. Move book carts. Lift and carry books. Search for missing books.
  • Process interlibrary loan materials and update records in specialized library software and systems. Scan pages in journals and books for electronic delivery. Ship materials to other libraries via Fed-Ex software. Open incoming packages and sort contents for processing.
  • Retrieve materials from local and remote locations. Perform light clerical work, routine office tasks, and run errands as directed.
  • Participate and contribute to library projects as assigned by Access Services staff.



Requirements:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and reliability are all required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to handle difficult situations; customer service
    experience preferred.
  • Experience using hardware (laptops, pc’s, printers, scanners, mobile devices), software (Windows, Mac, web browsers, Novasis, Webmail, Blackboard), and wireless network access preferred.
  • Familiarity with the library’s catalog, journals, databases, and web search engines preferred.
  • Cross-training in multiple areas required.

Summer Library Service Hours
Monday – Thursday: 9am-5pm (May 18-May 28)
Monday – Thursday: 9am-7pm (June 1 -July 29)
Monday – Thursday: 9am-5pm (August 3-August 13)
Monday – Friday: 9am-5pm (August 17-August 21)
Saturday-Sunday: 12pm-5pm (August 22-23)
All student employees must complete hiring paperwork online before they can be hired. Also, new student employees must go to the Human Resources Office in person to show original forms of employment authorization and identification required for the I-9 form.
Physical Demands Summary:
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time; frequent bending and lifting; able to lift 30 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking; pushing and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs.; ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis.
Wage Rate:$11.25/hour
