Description: Medical Assistant (MA)

About the Job:

This part-time, benefited position is 28 hours per week or 56 hours per pay period with an every other weekend rotation. The schedule includes weekday 10-hour shifts and weekend 8-hour shifts. There may be a sporadic need to provide coverage at other locations for schedule needs or vacation coverage, which is eligible for travel/mileage reimbursement.

Job Description:


Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant assists the Providers, Nurses, Clinical Assistants, Patient Service Representatives, Clinic Management, and Practice Administrator/RN in delivering expert medical care to our patients.

Day-to-day activities will vary from greeting and interacting with patients, answering phone calls, collecting intake information, and performing point-of-care testing while executing our goal to provide top-notch patient care.

Overall, this position directly interacts with patients and is integral in helping deliver our mission of bringing ER expertise to life's little emergencies.

Requirements:

  • The ideal team member will have prior relevant experience in a similar or same environment, 1-3 years preferred.
  • Completion of a technical/vocational training school program with either: CMA, AAMA, RMA, or CCMA Medical Assistant certification.
  • As we provide services seven days a week, this job does require evening hours and weekend rotations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides exemplary customer service; greets and treats all patients, visitors, and coworkers with courtesy and discretion.
  • Communicates in a courteous, professional, cooperative, and mature manner.
  • Answers telephone calls in a timely and polite manner; either responds to inquiry or directs caller to appropriate personnel while entering appropriate clerical notation into practice management software.
  • Maintain and document accurately a patient's electronic record of care.
  • Enters confidential personal health information into a computerized system with a high rate of accuracy.
  • Complies with federal and local laws in ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Rooms patients: Collecting clinical intake information, which includes medical history, medications, and allergies, capturing Vital signs.
  • Gathering information relative to the presenting illness or injury.
  • Perform and complete patient testing including EKGs, Visual Acuity, Height, Weight, and Venipuncture Specimen Collection.
  • Collect and proficiently perform Point-of-care testing, including Influenza, Lyme, SARS-CoV-2, Mononucleosis, RSV, and Strep. A urine dipstick, and urine pregnancy.
  • Application of pre-fabricated splint and other Orthopedic durable medical equipment to the patient with instruction of use.
  • Administering medications, including intramuscular and subcutaneous injections proficiently.
  • Assisting providers with procedures setup and during procedures as required.
  • Reviewing visit summaries and home care instructions with patients including prescriptions provided and work or school notes as well as follow-up care.
  • Provide after-visit follow-up phone calls to patients as needed, and relay any diagnostic testing results.
  • Ensures that equipment and supplies necessary to carry out patient care activities are available and usable and the environment is clean and organized.
  • Assisting Front Desk Staff with patient clerical tasks as needed.
  • Scans patient paper documents or cards into the practice management systems and labels appropriately per protocol.
  • Perform other tasks as delegated by the Provider, Nurse, Practice Coordinator, Practice Operations Supervisor, or Practice Administrator/RN..
