REPORTS TO: Foreman or Field Supervisor

EFFECTIVE DATE: March 2026

SUMMARY: The Field Technician, Ground Maintenance supports the delivery of residential and commercial landscape maintenance services through hands-on site work, horticultural care, equipment operation, and property upkeep.Working under the direction of a Foreman or Field Supervisor, this role is responsible for maintaining landscape health, appearance, and safety standards across assigned properties. The Field Technician contributes to efficient service execution by ensuring quality workmanship, proper equipment care, adherence to safety protocols, and professional on-site conduct.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Landscape Maintenance & Horticultural CareTurf Maintenance
  • Perform mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing in accordance with service standards.

  • Assist with aeration, overseeding, topdressing, and seasonal turf renovations.

  • Monitor turf health and report concerns such as disease, pests, or irrigation issues.

Garden & Plant Care
  • Install and maintain annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees.

  • Perform pruning, deadheading, weeding, and mulching.

  • Support plant health through proper soil preparation, watering, and fertilization practices.

  • Identify and report plant health issues to supervisors.

Property Detailing
  • Maintain clean bed edges, walkways, and hard surfaces.

  • Remove debris, litter, and organic buildup.

  • Ensure overall site presentation meets company and client standards.

2. Equipment & Tool Operation
  • Safely operate landscape maintenance equipment including mowers (push and ride-on), string trimmers, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, aerators, and spreaders.

  • Assist with the operation of larger equipment such as skid steers or small loaders as trained.

  • Use hand tools including shovels, rakes, pruners, and hedge shears.

  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns immediately.

  • Clean and store tools and equipment properly at the end of each shift.

  • Sign tools and equipment in/out using Asset Tiger as required.

3. Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and OH&S regulations.

  • Wear required PPE and follow Safe Work Practices and Safe Job Procedures.

  • Participate in toolbox meetings and complete required safety documentation (e.g., inspections, hazard assessments, incident or near-miss reporting).

  • Maintain awareness of site-specific hazards and contribute to a safe work environment.

4. Site Maintenance & Team Contribution
  • Maintain organized, clean, and hazard-free job sites.

  • Assist with loading/unloading materials and securing equipment for transport.

  • Communicate professionally with crew members, supervisors, and clients.

  • Support crew productivity through reliability, punctuality, and teamwork.

  • Represent the company’s mission, vision, and values through conduct and performance.

Seasonal Transition: Snow & Ice Management

From November through April, Park Landscaping transitions to Snow and Ice Management operations. During this period, the Field Technician supports winter services through snow removal and ice control activities for designated properties, including sidewalks, parking lots, and access areas.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manual and equipment-assisted snow clearing.

  • Application of ice control materials.

  • Monitoring site conditions during active weather events.

  • Maintaining equipment and completing required service documentation.

Availability for weather-dependent scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts during peak snow events, is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience: Previous experience in landscape maintenance, horticulture, or outdoor labour is an asset.

    • Experience operating commercial landscape equipment is an asset.

  • Education & Training: Post-secondary training in horticulture, landscaping, or related field is an asset.

    • Safety certifications (e.g., First Aid) are an asset.

  • Licensing: Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract is an asset.

    • Reliable transportation to job sites in Edmonton and surrounding areas is required.

  • Technical Skills: Ability to read basic site instructions and service specifications.

  • Basic proficiency with digital tools for time tracking and safety documentation (e.g., Aspire, Site Docs) is an asset.

COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong work ethic with accountability and attention to detail.

  • Ability to follow direction and work independently or as part of a crew.

  • Effective time management in a fast-paced, route-based environment.

  • Clear and professional communication skills.

  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort operating equipment.

  • Physical capability to perform manual labour in outdoor conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Primarily outdoor work environment.

  • Regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.

  • Exposure to noise, dust, debris, and equipment vibration.

  • Frequent lifting, bending, kneeling, walking, and repetitive motion.

  • Physically demanding setting with changing site and weather conditions.
