Estimating Design Representative at The Lester Group Inc and all of its wholly owned subsidiaries – Fredericksburg, Virginia
About This Position
The Truss Designer at The Lester Group is responsible for the accurate and
efficient design of roof and floor truss systems that meet customer specifications,
applicable building codes, and company standards. This role supports sales,
production, and field operations to ensure high-quality, buildable truss solutions
that support our customer-first service model.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
-Design roof and floor truss systems using industry-standard software (MiTek,
Alpine, or similar).
-Interpret architectural and structural plans, specifications, and job requirements.
-Ensure compliance with applicable local and national building codes.
-Produce truss layouts, individual truss drawings, and manufacturing
documentation.
Sales and Customer Service-Make service calls in the field for customer service and support issues
-Call on new customer prospects as needed to help the organization drive to its
sales growth goals
Collaboration & Support
-Work closely with sales, production, engineers, and customers to resolve design
issues.
-Respond to job changes, field conditions, and revision requests.
-Provide technical support to plant operations and field personnel as needed.
Efficiency & Quality
-Review designs for accuracy, material optimization, and manufacturability.
-Meet design deadlines to support production and delivery schedules.
-Maintain organized project files and documentation.
Qualifications
-Experience designing roof and/or floor trusses in a truss plant or component
manufacturing environment.
-Proficiency in truss design software (MiTek, Alpine, or equivalent).
-Solid understanding of residential and/or light commercial construction.
-Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
-Proficiency with Excel and production/ERP systems.
Physical & Work Environment-Regular walking, standing, and sitting; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
-Plant environment with moderate noise; use of safety equipment required.
