Job Description:
SUMMARY:
Material Handling Laborer performs essential physical and logistical support tasks within NUWCDIVNPT warehouses and satellite locations. This role is primarily responsible for the movement, loading, unloading, staging, and transport of materials; assisting with basic receiving, storage, and issuing functions; and supporting warehouse operations that include handling hazardous, classified, sensitive, shelf-life, and SUBSAFE/Level I/DSS-SOC materials as required. Tasks involve working with Material Handling Equipment (MHE), supporting re-warehousing, and enabling the warehouse team to maintain accurate material accountability in Navy ERP. This position is a labor-intensive role requiring physical stamina, attention to safety, and strict compliance with Navy and DoD handling and security standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Load, unload, lift, and move materials within warehouses and staging areas, including heavy or bulky items up to 70 lbs.
Transfer materials between receiving, storage, kitting, issuing, and delivery staging areas following established procedures.
Support handling of frustrated, hazardous, classified, shelf-life, or sensitive materials under the direction of senior warehouse personnel.
Utilize pallet jacks, forklifts, and related MHE as assigned and certified.
Conduct basic safety checks and report issues before and after use; cease operation until cleared by Government Lead if issues are identified.
Maintain clean, safe, organized warehouse spaces by sweeping, removing stray packaging, and supporting floor-cleaning equipment operations.
Assist with re-warehousing, stock rotation, shelf-life checks, replenishment, and replacing fallen stock.
Help secure materials against loss, deterioration, or pilferage following the Government loss-prevention program.
Assist receiving personnel with offloading, visual inspections, verification of counts/conditions, and preparing materials for staging and induction.
Support the proper stow of materials according to the Location Schema and segregation by condition code.
Pull, stage, and prepare materials for delivery based on Warehouse Movement Forms (WMFs).
Assist in loading delivery vehicles, preparing pallets/containers, and ensuring material is ready for transport while following chain-of-custody rules.
Assist in packaging and marking materials IAW MIL-STD-2073-1E and MIL-STD-129, especially for classified, pilferable, or sensitive items.
Identify damaged or unsuitable packaging and notify Government Lead for further instructions.
Use required PPE (e.g., safety glasses, steel-toe boots, gloves, hearing protection) and adhere to all safety protocols.
Follow CUI handling standards, warehouse access controls, and all site-specific security requirements.
Support SUBSAFE/Level I/DSS-SOC handling when assigned.

Requirements:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Essential :
High School Diploma
Prior experience performing physical labor in warehouses, material handling, logistics, distribution, or industrial environments.
Familiarity with basic material handling processes such as loading, unloading, staging, storage, and movement of goods.
Experience operating MHE (pallet jacks, forklifts) and conducting equipment inspections.
Ability to obtain/maintain required OSHA-compliant MHE/forklift certifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is generally performed in an office environment which requires sitting or standing and working on a
computer for long periods of time . Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods oftime. Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for: bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time, operating through extended periods of high stress. If applicable th e employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to70 pounds. Must possess visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; and the manual dexterity to operate a cell phone, handheld radio, telephone, and keyboard. Wearing safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear or other safety gear as appropriate
WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS:
This position is not eligible for remote work, as the essential functions of the role require the employee to perform duties on-site. Job is performed in an office and warehouse environment with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. If applicable work 10(+) hours per day. Must be able to work in fast paced, multi-task environment. Will require having flexed hours to accommodate for mission requirements to include weekends and Holidays. Overtime may be required.
