About This Position
The Assistant Controller is responsible for accurate and timely completion of all accounting, financial reporting and tax responsibilities for all non-consolidating entities and consolidating entities with external partners.
Requirements:• Annually:
Lead financial statement audit for non-consolidating entities.
Fulfill audit requests and prepare responses to financial statement questions.
Ensure proper completion of annual tax reporting (ie – 1120s)
• Quarterly
Provide budget-to-actual variance explanations.
Covenant reporting
Review balance sheet reconciliations, including equity accounts, to ensure all balances are valid.
Monitor and follow up on open receivables including Property Management fees.
• Monthly
Analytically review entity balance sheet and income statements.
Ensure accuracy of Intercompany accounts.
Review bank account reconciliations.
• Ongoing
Timely and accurate reporting to external parties
Ensure ongoing accuracy of new lease accounting standard.
Ensure the accuracy of journal entries and approve within accounting system.
Maintain proper internal control structure.
Work closely with other departments to ensure Yardi sub-ledger reporting of rental income, receivable, roll, escrow balances, etc. is accurate and agrees to financial reporting system.
Support other members of Financial Management
Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Interact often with other business areas and external parties while performing responsibilities.
Ad hoc – Complete or assist with 1-off projects, as necessary.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.
• Supervisory experience
• 5-7 years of experience in a position responsible for financial management and accounting; familiarity with non-profit accounting is strongly desired.
• Must be comfortable with working in a mission-driven, small office work environment and possess flexibility and enthusiasm.
• Working knowledge of computerized accounting
• Experience with Financial Edge, Yardi real estate management and/or Salesforce is a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Demonstrated ability to balance multiple tasks, collaborate with co-workers, work well independently in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and meet deadlines and maintain discretion in handling confidential information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent networking, relationship management, and customer skills.
• Reporting to the office the whole week is required. NJCC is piloting 1/1/26 a hybrid work schedule 3 days in the office, remote two days. Approval from department lead required.
