About This Position
Position Summary The Recreation Leader and Senior Recreation Leader positions support the Recreation and Parks Department, by providing structured recreational programs and services and providing exemplary customer service to the public.
Essential Functions
Recreation Leader:D-1; Entry Level - $14.54 per hour
Senior Recreation LeaderD-6; Entry Level - $15.60 per hour
- Conducts special, seasonal and year-round recreational events, programs, and services for children, including indoor and outdoor games and aquatic activities.
- Teaches the rules and playing skills of various games to participants, and monitors activities to ensure safety and proper behavior.
- Inspects and reports needed repairs or maintenance to equipment and facilities.
- Provides routine first aid to injured participants as needed.
- Prepares and maintains written records and reports on facility and equipment usage.
- Cashiers and backups up the Recreation Assistant as needed.
- Assembles and disassembles equipment and facilities.
- Issues and picks up athletic equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of a broad array of play and recreational activities.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of first aid.
- Skill in providing effective instruction in sports and recreational activities.
- Knowledge of recreational and athletic equipment and related facilities.
- Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
- Ability to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
- Ability to maintain accurate and legible notes.
- Knowledge of City policies, procedures and practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
- Previous experience leading groups preferred.
- Previous experience coaching or referring sports events preferred.
- Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.
- High School Diploma/equivalent and two (2) years’ experience in recreational operations.
- Previous experience coaching or referring sports events preferred.
- Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.
- Must possess a valid Tennessee Drivers License.
