Description
The Assistant Director serves as part of the student engagement and development team in the Office and Student Activities with a special focus on advising and supporting university recognized nationally affiliated social Greek-letter organizations. This staff person facilitates and fosters an environment of community, belonging, and success by: Acting as an advisor to all peer governing councils including Interfraternity Council (IFC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and National Panhellenic Council (NPC), and the Greek honor organizations ?Rho Lambda and Order of Omega. Working to develop, enhance, improve, and innovate FSL programming and initiatives, including training, development, programs, philanthropic and service activities, and events. Developing and implementing university processes and practices in Fraternity and Sorority Life, as well as strategic initiatives and programs to grow and strengthen the UCM FSL community including the management and support of all formal and informal recruitment periods to support the growth of fraternities and sororities. Providing leadership in addressing any fraternity and sorority issues related to leadership development, crisis/emergency response, conduct, and related issues; and representing FSL on assorted campus-wide committees. Working closely with campus partners such as Community Standards and Support, Public Safety, University Housing, Campus Community Health, Student Activities, the Center for Multiculturalism and Inclusivity, Athletics, and Alumni and Foundation. Contributing as part of the administrative advising team for the student programming board (Mo's Activity Council) that oversees programming activities, the programming schedule, and advise student leaders regarding scheduling techniques to maximize participation. Serving as an administrative advisor for the student spirit group (Roaring Red) overseeing activities, advising student leaders on goals and priorities and strategic plans for effectiveness and impact, and managing program funding. Working closely with Athletics and Alumni and Foundation.

- Provides guidance to chapters and peer governing councils particularly in the areas of risk management, membership recruitment and retention, community building, problem solving, and members' development relative to social justice, harm reduction, and leadership.
- Meet regularly with chapter leadership regarding chapter activities and events, to include fundraisers, special events, etc. Educate leaders regarding university policies and resources for fundraising, events, publicity, etc. Facilitate co-sponsored and/or partnership events to maximize program opportunities.
- Supports chapters in understanding institutional expectations and adherence to institutional policies.
- Coordinates access to resources within and beyond the institution to support the needs of chapters, councils, and their membership.
- Attends fraternity/sorority functions and campus events, as appropriate, to maintain a visible and supportive staff presence.
- Manages planning and arrangement of meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to support the vision, purpose, and core values of Fraternity & Sorority Life. Oversees event logistics including communication and publicity, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments, and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Partners with stakeholders to cultivate positive and strategic relationships in support of the fraternity/sorority experience including national, regional, and local volunteers and leadership.
- Coordinate with university Alumni and Foundation staff and scholarship review committees to ensure completion and awarding of Greek affiliated scholarships.
- Works to enhance, improve, and innovate leadership program curricula and delivery to better meet goals and objectives.
- Supports broader programming and educational efforts aimed at students and stakeholders.
- Partners with stakeholders to cultivate positive and strategic relationships in support of the student programming board (Mo's Activity Council) and student spirit group (Roaring Red).
- Participate in and advise student leaders regarding University-sponsored student activity and/or student organization program planning, including the President's Lawn Concert, Homecoming, Family Weekend, and Founders Day. Participate in programming committees and commit and/or determine student organization involvement in activities.
- Oversee and/or facilitate logistical details for programs and activities for which serving as primary administrative advisor, to include: coordinate facilities needs with Meeting and Conference Services, President's Office, Sodexho, etc.; coordinate entries for activities; purchase award; web maintenance; hire student employees to work at events; etc.
Strategic planning, administration, and communication to include: -20%
- Facilitates open and effective communication, cooperation, and teamwork within and outside of one's own team; respects the needs and contributions of others.
- Communicates effectively one-to-one, in small groups, and public speaking contexts; writes precise and well-organized communications.
- Participates in on-going strategic planning processes and support the development of long-term goals and annual objectives for Fraternity & Sorority Life.
- Manages development and maintenance of evaluation processes including associated metrics and key performance indicators.
- Reviews and analyzes outcome measurements and recommends changes and enhancements to improve program/project.
- Ensure timely completion and communication of scholarship report, membership report, philanthropy report, chapter reports, and other documentation for fraternity and sorority life operations.
Typical Qualifications
Education:
- Master's degree in any field required. Master's degree in the field of Higher Education, Student Affairs, or Leadership preferred.
Experience :
- Two (2) academic years of post baccalaureate experience in sorority and fraternity life and/or experience with advising, coaching, and leading student organizations required.
- Event management experience preferred.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
