About This Position
The Standards Engineer provides complex engineering analysis for internal and external District customers, including development and maintenance of the District’s construction, material, and engineering design standards, equipment and apparatus specifications and acquisition, facilitate the District’s standards committee, and prepare engineering reports in compliance with District policies and applicable government standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with a degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering or equivalent; and one (1) to three (3) years of experience in utility or power engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
Must have a valid Driver’s license. Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T) license preferred.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word. Experience in drafting software preferred.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs, bend, reach, uses hands to finger, handle, or feel, and sit for extended periods of time. Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Required to speak and hear clearly when communicating over the telephone and in person.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoor settings include all types of property and site conditions including open spaces, timberlands, urban developments, flat and hilly terrain, building construction sites, and road rights-of-way. Indoor settings include residential, commercial and industrial sites that can involve cramped spaces, moving machinery, etc. Individuals may be exposed to hazardous conditions, including but not limited to obstacles, heights, open trenches, highway traffic, electric lines, all types of vegetation, fiberglass insulation, paint fumes, wood preservatives, solvents, oils, and cleaning compounds. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

- Develop and maintain construction standards, material standards, and design standards.
- Evaluate Engineering, construction, and maintenance procedures and make recommendations.
- Assist in the development and evaluation of maintenance and construction procedures.
- Prepare cost estimates, engineering recommendations and other information as may be necessary to apply or recommend changes to District policy.
- Act as National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) subject matter expert for the District and review District standards for compliance with NESC.
- Perform or coordinate maintenance of assembly unit information in District’s work management system.
- Perform engineering and economic studies to make recommendations. Prepare reports to summarize and present results.
- Assist Operations department in development of maintenance and construction procedures.
- Coordinate efforts and work with consulting engineers.
- Preform the engineering functions required for procurement of materials, equipment, and contractor services. This may include but is not limited to specification and bid document preparation, evaluation of bids, and contract administration.
- Prepare and submit required documentation and other reports, in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Aid in the professional development and mentorship of the Engineering Department.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Engineering Manager to help the Engineering department meet District goals and expectations.
